Kutless Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Everyone's obscure
Ten million people each with their problems
Why should anyone care
And in Your eyes I can see
I am not just a man, vastly lost in this world
Lost in a Sea of Faces
Because you traded Your life for mine
Sometimes my life it feels so trivial
Immersed in the greatness of space
Yet somehow you still find the time for me
It's then You show me Your love
And In Your eyes I can see
And in Your arms I will be
I am not just a man, vastly lost in this world
Lost in a Sea of Faces
Your body's the bread, Your blood is the wine
Because you traded Your life for mine
If only my one heart
Was all you'd gain from all it cost
Well I know you would have still been a man
With a reason
To willingly offer your life
I am not just a man, vastly lost in this world
Lost in a Sea of Faces
Your body's the bread, Your blood is the wine
Because you traded Your life for mine
Just one in a million faces
The lyrics to Kutless's song Sea of Faces describe the feeling of insignificance and lostness in a world with so many people and their individual problems. The songwriter wonders if anyone really cares about them amidst the ten million people around them. However, in the eyes of God, they realize that they are not just one man lost in the world, but they are cared for and loved. They see themselves as a part of a sea of faces who have been given the gift of eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, symbolized by the bread and wine of communion. The writer is in awe of God's love and finds comfort in it, even when feeling insignificant and small.
The song portrays a constant struggle between feeling lost in the crowd and recognizing individual worth in the eyes of a higher power. The lyrics are powerful and relatable to anyone who has ever felt alone or without purpose. The juxtaposition of the world's immense size and the individual's insignificance in it against the incredible love and sacrifice of Jesus make for a thought-provoking and emotion-filled song.
