L'Arc~en~Ciel Lyrics

The lyrics of L'Arc~En~Ciel's song "死の灰" (Shi No Hai) carry a sense of desperation as they question the existence of various gods and ask who will have the last laugh in the end. The song starts with the line "Desperate あがいてみればいい" which translates to "Desperate, give it your all." The singer calls upon numerous gods, questioning who will be the chosen one in the end. The next line "最後に選ばれし者" (Saigo ni Erabareshi Mono) means "The chosen one at last." The ambiguity in the lyrics continues as the singer questions whether this chosen person is aiming for the throne in a wasteland, with "廃墟で王の座を狙っているのかい?" (Haikyo de Ou no Za wo Neratteiru no Kai?).

Despite this reality, the singer suggests being led by a dream that showers light down on them, "夢のように君を導く輝きが降り注げばいいけど" (Yume no you ni kimi wo michibiku kagayaki ga furisosogeba ii kedo).
