Feeling Down
L'objectif Lyrics

No change
No change
No change
No change
For you
For you
For you
straight out of the centre,
tell the truth, just cos your meant to
blink once and it’s late december
blink again, sometime in september
and all these days look good in paper
and how your eyes look like forever
i don’t think she’ll give me credit
will we ever see the light
i’m one bad joke away from doing a thing i’ll take to the grave,
and i know no mans an island, but i could be your holiday
and i’m gonna change myself
doesn’t mean you should agree
i don’t think i’ll be somebody cos all of that don’t do it for me
ahhh
and i won’t change
i won’t change
i won’t change
i won’t change
for you
for you
for you
you don’t live far, I'll make it work
everyday rolls like your eyes when i say i won’t ever desert you,
don’t suppose i could deserve you,
it’s not like we ever spoke through all the reasons i’d be lying when i say i didn’t ever love
you
ahhh
and i won’t change
i won’t change
i won’t change
i won’t change
for you,
for you,
for you
the same when you’re not around
you don’t speak it’s so damn loud
cos everywhere’s a crowd
its my fault i’m feeling down
its my fault i’m feeling down
its my fault i’m feeling down
its my fault i’m feeling down
It’s my fault
its my fault i’m feeling down
its my fault i’m feeling down
its my fault i’m feeling down
its my fault i’m feeling down
its my fault i’m feeling down
its my fault i’m feeling down
its my fault i’m feeling down
its my fault i’m feeling down
I won’t change (it’s my fault i’m feeling down)
I won’t change (it’s my fault i’m feeling down
I won’t change (it’s my fault i’m feeling down)

I won’t change (it’s my fault i’m feeling down)
I won’t change (for you, for you, for you) - repeat

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of L'objectif's song "Feeling Down" explore themes of stagnation, self-acceptance, and personal responsibility. The repetition of "No change" throughout the song suggests a feeling of being trapped or stuck in a certain situation, possibly in a relationship or a state of mind. The repeated phrase "For you" emphasizes that this stagnation is not for anyone else but the person singing the song.

The opening lines, "straight out of the centre, tell the truth, just cos your meant to, blink once and it’s late December, blink again, sometime in September," paint a picture of time passing by quickly without any significant changes or progress being made. The line "all these days look good in paper" implies that external appearances may be deceiving, and the perception of a seemingly content life may not match the internal struggles and emotions.

The lyrics delve into self-reflection and the desire for recognition, with lines like "i don’t think she’ll give me credit, will we ever see the light." It expresses the longing for validation and a fear of being forgotten or overlooked. The line "i’m one bad joke away from doing a thing i’ll take to the grave" suggests a sense of vulnerability and the willingness to go to extreme lengths to maintain a certain image or hide one's true feelings.

The song acknowledges the concept of interconnectedness with the line "no man's an island," but the singer feels they could be someone's temporary escape or respite from everyday life, represented by the phrase "i could be your holiday." This suggests a longing for significance and the desire to be someone's source of joy or relief.

The chorus repeats the line "i won’t change for you," indicating a refusal to conform to external expectations or pressures. There is a recognition that personal growth and change should come from within, and just because the singer is changing, it doesn't mean others should agree or change as well. The repetition emphasizes their determination to remain authentic to themselves.

Towards the end, the lyrics suggest a sense of longing and regret, with lines like "everyday rolls like your eyes when i say i won’t ever desert you" and "it’s not like we ever spoke through all the reasons i’d be lying when i say i didn’t ever love you." This portrays a complex mix of emotions, including love, guilt, and a desire for connection, but also a realization that the past cannot be changed.

The repeated phrase "it's my fault I'm feeling down" reflects a sense of personal responsibility for the emotional state the singer finds themselves in. It suggests an acknowledgement that their own actions and choices contribute to their feelings of sadness and dissatisfaction. The final repetition of "I won't change" and "For you" underscores their determination to remain true to themselves, regardless of external circumstances or expectations.

Sometimes it's just baffling how some music doesn't get on "the radar" of the mainstream/general public and other much worse stuff does. This song is better than at least 50 other songs that've been released this year but as of the time I'm typing this the band only has 706 subscribers on YouTube and 256 Likes for this song...hopefully some TikTok kid will notice it and make it viral or something because these guys deserve an audience..
