It's Your Love
L. A. Getaway Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Take off that make up honey
I know what you've been missing
I've got a card to send you home
It says "Try to forget those good times
Maybe you never were mine"
How has this pain helped you grow?
Because you've done so much with your life
To have to settle for
A need to feel, a need to try
A need to feel whole
Do you feel whole?

Maybe we'll see this through if we get it together
Maybe I'll get to you, if you get it together
Go, try, try to make yourself right
Go, try, to make this right and move on with your life

Take of that make up honey
Why don't you ever listen?
I've got something I need to know cause I've tried
Tried to forget your past crimes

But were you ever just mine?
Was there something that I didn't know because

Overall Meaning

it feels like I'm all alone
You've been running for so long
But running ain't enough
You need to stop and face the truth
That love is what you want
Do you want love?

The lyrics of L.A. Getaway's song "It's Your Love" suggest a relationship that is coming to an end, with the singer trying to understand the reasons behind the breakup. The lines "Take off that make-up honey" and "Why don't you ever listen?" indicate that the singer is frustrated with their partner's unwillingness to confront the issues in their relationship, and instead continue to hide behind a superficial exterior. The card mentioned in the first verse serves as a metaphor for the message the singer is trying to convey, encouraging their partner to let go of the past and move on with their life. The repeated phrase "Go, try, try to make yourself right" suggests that the singer sees growth and self-improvement as essential for moving forward, both for themselves and their partner.

The chorus of the song holds some hope for the relationship, with the possibility that things might work out if both parties are able to come together and make amends. The lines "Maybe we'll see this through if we get it together" and "Maybe I'll get to you, if you get it together" suggest that the singer believes in the potential for reconciliation, but only if both partners are willing to put in the effort. Overall, the lyrics of "It's Your Love" explore themes of self-discovery, growth, and the struggle to overcome obstacles in a relationship.

When this first came out it immediately became my favorite, visiting my turntable daily and twice on weekends. I sounds every bit as good today. Excellent stuff.

Great Post!  Great song about post-altamount LA rock and roll culture scene.  References to the GTO's, drugs, Whiskey A Go Go, plus Leon Russell on keys and Clarence White on his stringbender tele!  Chris Etheridge was truly a talent and he does a good turn on vocals on this tune plus also on Dr John's Craney Crow.
