With a prestigious slot at SXSW and two extensive US tours already under their belts this year, Laveda are now gearing up to release their second studio album ‘A Place We Grew Up In’ via Papercup Music in Spring 2023.
Featuring earlier singles including the sun-drenched “Surprise”, antsy and ethereal “F***”and slacker-tinted “Troy Creeps”, almost all of the songs on ‘A Place You Grew Up In’ were written between late March 2020 and summer 2021, before being recorded by the band while staying on a ranch just outside of Los Angeles. Produced by Dylan Herman (Beck, Pynkie), the album sees duo Ali Genevich (vocals/guitar) and Jake Brooks (vocals/guitar/synths) joined by Laveda’s full live band, including Dan Carr (bass) and Joe Taruone (drums).

Color
LaVeda Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
when the world and everything in it is in color
Love isn’t something that we can write down no matter how hard we try
And life is really just pictures on my wall dancing in rhythms that I constantly notice
Memories have nothing to do with the individual
Memories only contain what it is that your wanting
What’s inside your mind
What’s already inside the way we consciously measure time
It’s lovely how it rains outside
"Color" by LaVeda explores the limitations of human perception and the beauty of our ability to perceive the world in its full vibrancy. The opening lines question why we tend to view things in black and white, when the world around us is filled with an array of colors. This alludes to the idea that our perception of reality is often limited and confined to narrow perspectives.
The lyrics suggest that love cannot be adequately captured or expressed through words alone. No matter how hard we try, it eludes accurate description and cannot be fully encompassed by language. This implies that love is a complex and nuanced emotion that transcends our ability to fully understand or articulate it.
The song also highlights the ephemeral nature of life and the fleeting moments that make it up. The mention of pictures on walls implies the passing of time, with these images representing precious memories that constantly dance and catch our attention. This line suggests that we are constantly aware of the passing of time and the transient nature of our experiences.
Furthermore, the lyrics propose that memories are not tied to specific individuals but rather to our desires and aspirations. Memories hold only what we yearn for or what we long to bring into our lives. This suggests that memories are not objective records of the past but subjective reflections influenced by our desires and emotions.
The final lines of the song emphasize the beauty of our ability to perceive the world and the passage of time. It expresses the poet's appreciation for the way rain falls from the sky, perhaps symbolizing the natural cycles and rhythms of life. This appreciation for the simple elements of nature showcases an optimistic and awe-inspired outlook on existence. Overall, the lyrics of "Color" invite listeners to reflect on the limitations of perception, the complexities of love, the fleeting nature of life, and the beauty of our conscious experience.
