Smile For Me
Lafayette Lyrics

40 lashes on my sheets
My back red so unholy
Geese stacked in numbers safety
Let them know it's all for me
Stuff myself into your sleeve
Landscape tilt to snow season
Marble palace cold as can be
And I think so highly
Whenever you're by me
I am so free yah yah yah
I can't help biting
Into your siding
This house on a leash
Leash, yah
My body inviting
My body inciting
Myself in a heap
Next to these
You are enticing
There ain't much deciding
Atleast not for me
Me
Me
When you're in the room
Get hold off me girl
Don't speak into the phone
Cause you're right here
And I ain't alone
No I ain't alone
I ain't alone
I ain't alone
The lyrics to Lafayette's song "Smile For Me" depict a complex and somewhat dark emotional landscape. The opening lines, "Let them know it's all for me, 40 lashes on my sheets, my back red so unholy," suggest a sense of internal struggle and pain. The use of physical punishment imagery implies a self-destructive nature or past experiences that have left emotional scars.
The following lines, "Geese stacked in numbers safety, let them know it's all for me, stuff myself into your sleeve, landscape tilt to snow season," paint a picture of isolation and vulnerability. The mention of geese stacked for safety illustrates a desire for protection, while the reference to stuffing oneself into someone's sleeve suggests seeking solace or comfort in another person. The shifting landscape and the mention of snow season conveys a feeling of coldness, both physically and emotionally.
The chorus, "And I think so highly, whenever you're by me, I am so free yah yah yah, I can't help biting into your siding, this house on a leash, leash, yah," reveals a deep admiration and attraction towards someone. The mention of biting into their siding suggests a passionate and intense connection. The reference to the house on a leash symbolizes a feeling of being controlled or restricted within the relationship.
The final verse, "When you're in the room, get hold off me girl, don't speak into the phone cause you're right here, and I ain't alone, no I ain't alone, I ain't alone, I ain't alone," further emphasizes the longing for intimate connection and the desire to be physically present with the person. The repetition of "I ain't alone" implies a fear of loneliness and a need for constant companionship.
Overall, "Smile For Me" explores themes of inner turmoil, vulnerability, passion, and a deep longing for connection.
