Yah
Don't you draw those shades up
Yah
I bite down my chains from
Yah
Shackled in my room some
Yah
I cannot tease or toy
Grip the hilt of my sword
Slice me from tip to toe
All I do is flip the foam
Cool side cool side pose
Twist and turn in two rows
Limbs crushing till they dead
Sleep baby rest your head
Cheapened in my life for those
Clear and pink fill my void
Door at the end of my hall
Always seem to hear it all
New chain new chain cold
Chord wired in my throat
Hard wired in my brain
Please girl take my name
Let you hold my name love
Yah
Don't you draw those shades up
Yah
I bite down my chains from
Yah
Shackled in my room some
Yah
Feel the sheets twisting round my neck
For my baby nest
I will try my best huh
Feel the heat from your deep breaths
For my baby's breast
Resting on my chest huh uh
Girl I must confess
This is love unless
My lust in check huh
I could fuck all night don't test
I ain't come out west
Just to stay so dressed yah
Took my coat off willing,
Girl those flowers wilted
Take them out that vase
And give me a taste
Show me the finer things
I wanna give you chains
I wanna tie you down
I wanna new bed frame
I wanna brand new Porsche
I wanna view from the porch
Don't wanna view from coach
Want some Lou and poach
Running on that bread
Wanna be in that head
Wanna know what you made of
Wanna know where you staying
Let you hold my name love
Yah
Don't you draw those shades up
Yah
I bite down my chains from
Yah
Shackled in my room some
Yah
The lyrics to Lafayette's song "What's My Name?" depict a complex and introspective exploration of identity, desire, and the struggle for personal freedom. The singer wrestles with their own sense of self, referring to their name as something they are willing to "let" someone hold. This suggests a vulnerability and a desire for connection, but also a recognition of the power dynamics that can exist within relationships.
The reference to drawing shades up and biting down chains signifies the singer's desire to break free from the constraints and limitations that have confined them. They express a longing for liberation, symbolized by being shackled in their room. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for feeling trapped in their own mind or circumstances.
The lyrics also touch upon themes of passion and lust. The singer speaks of flipping the foam, indulging in physical desires, and confessing their love. However, there is also a recognition that their desires need to be kept in check, emphasizing the importance of consent and mutual respect in relationships.
The verse about flowers wilting and wanting to give chains and tie someone down can be seen as exploring conflicting desires for both freedom and control. It reflects the singer's yearning for intimacy and a desire to possess and protect the object of their affection. These conflicting emotions and desires create a tension throughout the song, showcasing the complexity of human relationships.
Overall, "What's My Name?" delves into the depths of personal identity, longing, and the complexities of human connection. It captures the battles between freedom and constraint, and the intertwining of desire and power dynamics within relationships.
