2am
Landon Conrath Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In my mind it′s a breeze
I'm fumbling while I look for my keys
Got the text, she′s a wreck
And I've got a premonition that
Maybe she was with him again

What a shame playing games
When there's nowhere to go
Fan the flame, you′re to blame
And you′re killing me slow
Through the glass I'm attached
But she don′t even know how much I'd miss
Her if she walked out the picture
And ooooo
My toes they don′t touch
The waves are too rough
And ooooo
Stroke of bad luck I guess

It's 2 am on the phone again
You got me wishing we′re more than friends
I'm living in an emotional hell
Taking kicks to the belt
And lately I've been wishing
That maybe we were kissing instead

Coffee cups
Styrofoam

Your sweeter when I′m with you alone
Take the hint
Reminisce
To back in mid-December
But somehow, it′s September again

What a shame playing games
When there's nowhere to go
Fan the flame, you′re to blame
And you're killing me slow
Through the glass I′m attached
But she don't even know how much I′d miss
Her if she walked out the picture
And ooooo
My toes they don't touch
The waves are too rough
And ooooo
Stroke of bad luck I guess

It's 2 am on the phone again
You got me wishing we′re more than friends
I′m living in an emotional hell
Taking kicks to the belt
And lately I've been wishing
That maybe we were kissing instead

It′s 2 am on the phone again
Why can't you leave me alone instead
I′m Living in an emotional hell
Taking kicks to the belt

And lately I've been wishing
That maybe we were kissing instead

Overall Meaning

The song "2AM" by Landon Conrath tells a story of unrequited love and heartbreak. The singer of the song is in love with someone who is in a toxic relationship with someone else. He receives a text from her, revealing that something has gone wrong with her current partner, and he senses an opportunity to confess his feelings for her. However, he is hesitant because he knows that her heart belongs to another. The singer wishes to be more than just friends with her, and he reminisces about happier times they shared in mid-December, which is a contrast to the current situation in September.

The lyrics use the metaphor of being out at sea with rough waves to describe the turmoil and uncertainty of the singer's emotional state. He feels like he's drifting with no control, and the waves are too turbulent for him to stand on his own two feet. The coffee cups and styrofoam that are mentioned suggest that the singer is feeling nostalgic for a time when things were simpler and more comfortable. He longs for a life where he can be happy with the person he loves and not be constantly tortured by unrequited feelings.

Overall, "2AM" is a melancholic, emotive song that captures the pain of being in love with someone who is unavailable. The lyrics describe the singer's inner conflict and the uncertainty that comes with holding onto a love that cannot be reciprocated.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this song! Along with Papercuts, Jericho, Acetone, lowercase, Bouldvards ... he's a rising star. He incorporates a lot of old skool rock basics in the mix coupled with fresh songwriting. And hell, I'm 67 years old - not his target demographic 🤣but a big fan!
