Come On In My Kitchen
Larkin Poe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Mhmm, mm hmm mhmm, hmm
Mm, mhmm hmm
You better come on in my kitchen
'Cause it's goin' to be rainin' outdoors
Ooh ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh
The woman I love
Some joker got lucky, stole her back again
Eh you better come on in my kitchen
'Cause it's goin' to be rainin' outdoors
Ooh ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh
Oh, she's gone, and I know she won't be back
I took the last nickel out her nation sack
You better come on in my kitchen
'Cause it's goin' to be rainin' outdoors
Ooh ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh
Mhmm, hmm hmm mhmm, mm hmm
Yeah, hey hey yeah
You better come on in my kitchen
'Cause it's goin' to be rainin' outdoors
Ooh ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh
The lyrics to Larkin Poe's song "Come on in My Kitchen" carry a strong message of pain and desperation. The song begins with moaning sounds and builds up to the invitation for someone to come into the singer's kitchen as it is raining outdoors. The kitchen serves as a metaphor for a safe space where one can escape from the troubles of the world outside. The repeated "hmm" sounds and the long pauses in the song create a haunting atmosphere and add to the sense of despair.
The lyrics then take a darker turn, as the singer reveals that he had stolen the woman he loved from his best friend, only to have her stolen back. He laments his loss and confesses to taking the last nickel out of her "nation sack", a term used to describe a backpack or purse used by migrant workers. The singer seems to be in a state of complete despair, as he is left alone with his regrets and struggles to find a way out of his predicament.
Overall, the song tells a story of heartbreak and betrayal, and the struggle to find a safe haven amidst the rain and pain that life can bring. The haunting melody, coupled with the sparse arrangement and moaning sounds, creates a powerful and emotional listening experience.

It is unbelievable listening to these
beautiful ladies with grace in their faces, who play especially that classical blues from Robert Johnson in his best tradition !
@jed1166
It is one thing to play music... it is quite another thing to live it, breath it, smell it, taste it and make it real art... I have seen two of the greatest bluesmen ever, BB King , and John Lee Hooker live. I promise you that they would be so proud of LP for keepin’ it real.
