Last November is a diverse brew of quirky yet memorable pop rock accompanied by honest and thought provoking lyrics. Their ever growing internet presence, coupled with word-of-mouth from devoted fans, is pushing this young Atlanta band to true heights.
Under the guidance of platinum-selling producer Steven Haigler (Brand New, Fuel, Oleander, Pixies, As Tall as Lions), Last Novemberβs new album, Over the Top or Under the Weather, delivers on the promise of the groupβs impressive 2006 debut album, All the Gory Details, which was featured on The Real World, and other MTV shows, as well as garnering multi-formatted airplay on over 200 radio stations.
When we were in high school we used to sit around with acoustic guitars singing songs from Brand Newβs, Deja Entendu, remembers Last Novemberβs vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Luke Pilgrim. Working with the man who produced that record was a pretty surreal experience for us.
Luke Pilgrim, who began performing when he was 11, wrote most of the songs for the first album when he was still 15, and produced that disc himself. Now with a few more years under his belt, he brings an added maturity and experience to his writing. On Over the Top or Under the Weather, Steven Haiglerβs sparkling production concentrates the bandβs highly melodic vocals within edgy guitar inventions like The Bumper Sticker Song, the albumβs first single and video.
The Bumper Sticker Song is really about finding someone who can love you in spite of all your flaws, weird hang ups, disorders, and overall neurotic, obsessive nature, says Pilgrim. I actually get emails from people asking if I really have A.D.D and O.C.D. I usually just tell them those are only a couple of my many disorders.
On the new CD, rockers like the wry Jesus Had Breakfast in Bed and Butter Me Up, with its Leslie-fied touches, demonstrate an astounding growth for Last November, while the superb Sunday Afternoon creates a lush landscape of baroque pop that is both hauntingly catchy and intelligent. Besides Luke Pilgrim on lead vocals and guitar, the band includes Tyler Ayers on bass and Taylor Woodruff on drums and vocals.
Over the Top or Under the Weather is Last November's second release on Southern Tracks Records, the independent label founded by legendary music publisher Bill Lowery. It was recorded and mixed at the renowned Southern Tracks Studio in Atlanta, home to such artists as Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Train, The Bravery, and Bruce Springsteen, and mastered by Rodney Mills (Butch Walker, Pearl Jam, Drive-By Truckers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc.).

The Attic's Full of Paper Hearts
Last November Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
His sights are set on me.
I'm sure he'll hit the target,
I've never been that lucky.
Will you come to my funeral,
Put flowers on my grave?
And if this doesn't kill me,
CH: I want to leave a permanent scar on your brain,
I want to live in the headlines so you will remember my name.
I'll ride in the ambulance,
In intensive care.
Take me to the E.R.
I hate the way they stare.
Please, don't act like I'm not here,
I hear the words you say.
I might be in a coma,
But I can tell you're fake.
CH: Repeat
I know you hired that hit man,
And he does good work.
And I'm so very glad that,
You got your money's worth.
Chorus...
The Attic's Full of Paper Hearts is a haunting and powerful song that elicits a range of emotions from the listener. The opening line, "There's a sniper in the window, his sights are set on me," sets a tone of fear and foreboding. The singer is resigned to their fate, feeling that they have never been lucky, and assuming that they will be targeted and killed by the sniper. They make a poignant request to a loved one to come to their funeral and put flowers on their grave, and even more strikingly, to make them a birthday cake if they manage to survive the ordeal.
In the second verse, the singer seems to have miraculously survived the attempt on their life and is being taken to the emergency room. They express frustration and discomfort at the people who are staring at them and ask those around them not to treat them as if they're not there, even though they might be in a coma. The final verse is the most shocking of all, as the singer accuses someone close to them of hiring the sniper and getting their money's worth.

Relationship of Command
Yeah, as far as I know it's their only one not widely available. Sucks, too, because it's honestly some of their best work. Outside of a few physical copies and some of the songs from it being on YT beforehand, the only place I could find the album was Amazon through MP3 files
