Take A Ride
Laura Love Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If you come to our town take a ride take a ride
If you come to our town take a ride again with me

If you stop by the place where we lay where we lay
If you stop by the place where we lay

Please forget how I cried how I cried how I cried
Please forget how I cried on that day

And all those who would say who would say who would say
Why they thought you should marry me that day

I'll try not to think about
How I felt ten years a life ago
How I felt when you left me far behind

If your heart asks you who he or she would have been
If your heart asks you put it out of your mind

If in those you confide there is doubt there is doubt
If in those you confide there is doubt
Explain to them as you did to me did to me
How necessary leaving then would be

Know I've mourned quiet enough for myself and for you and
For the one we'll never come to know

I'll try not to think

I'll try I'll try not to cry
I'll try

Overall Meaning

Laura Love's song "Take a Ride" is a melancholic song about a past love that still haunts the singer. The song invites the listener to take a ride in their town again with the singer, but it also suggests that the past is not easy to forget. The lyrics in the chorus reflect this sense of hesitation and unresolved feelings: "If you stop by the place where we lay/ Please forget how I cried on that day/ And all those who would say, why they thought you should marry me that way."

The song is a reflection on a past relationship that did not work out, and the singer is still processing their feelings about it. The singer tries to put the past behind and move on, but it is clear that the memories and emotions are too powerful to ignore. She mourns for herself, her past love, and for the one they could have been if things had gone differently.

The song is a powerful reminder of the ways that love and relationships can shape our lives, leaving us with memories that can be both beautiful and painful. It is also an invitation to reflect on the past, to let go of old regrets and unresolved feelings, and to move on with kindness and understanding.

This is brilliance. Laura Love has got to be one of the most under-recognized of musical geniuses of all time. I have the nice folks at WUMB in Boston to thank for my having discovered her work; if it hadn't been for their playing "Aha Me a Riddle" one fine day, my musical life would be far less complete.,, and I wouldn't even know it. Thanks so much for sharing this here.

Her song, "I'm Your Daughter's Lover" is probably the most poignant and touching portraits of forbidden and misunderstood love that was ever recorded. She has an excellent song about Nat Turner on YouTube that is waiting for a larger audience to discover. I saw her perform in Boston decades ago, and she is as great as ever.

Still one of the most amazing voices in Amerika. Have had the honor of seeing her for a couple of decades. She's still killing it. Sing on ms. Love.

I heard Laura for the first time at Telluride Bluegrass Festival and she started with Amazing Grace. I had her CD in my hand before she finished the first verse. Her voice cut through my soul and the mountain air. ❤️❤️

Ron Litz

Saw her some twenty five years ago, I believe the song may have been "anyway". She can dance, she can sing like no other.

Never heard of Laura Love until tonight. Picked up her CD Octoroon for a dollar in my local music store's dollar bin. AMAZING. I am as of tonight, a H U G E fan!!! LOVE THIS STUFF!!!

Thank you for posting this great set with the great Ms. Love. Have been a big fan of hers for many years. Really enjoyed seeing her here with Rod Cook, Jen Todd and Chris Leighton. Made me feel nostalgic. Love every song in this set. :) Only thing missing here is Barbara Lamb. :)

Wow, nice audio from the cam! It looks to me like you were sitting near the sound booth. Even if you are not taking a line from the board, the best place to sit is by the booth because the engineer is mixing for what s/he hears at that location. Always the best seat in the house, IMHO. Laura would LOVE to come back but we haven't heard from them in a few years. Start a campaign with your friends. Write to request LL via the web site - not too late for this fall!
