But I am still
Blowing right past me
Like a breeze through a mill
I'm told its a race
But that doesn't seem fair
The faster I move
Like in a tornado
Everybody seems scared
What will it take
And who will it spare
And I try to run
But it seems I forgot
So I'll be right here
You can join me or not
But I hope you'll stay with me for a while
Please stay with me, just for now
I know life is passing on through
But please stay, I wanna stand still with you
With you by my side I don't feel so old
The wind stops howling and I'm no longer cold
I know what surrounds us is trouble and pain
But let them moan. In here we'll remain
So please stay with me for a while
Stay with me, just for now
I know life is passing on through
But please stay, I wanna stand still with you
The lyrics to Lauren Anderson's song "Stand Still" convey the singer's desire to escape the fast-paced nature of the world and find solace in stillness. The world continues to move forward, but the singer feels as though they are standing still and being overlooked, likening themselves to a breeze that passes through a mill. The singer questions the fairness of the race that life seems to be, realizing that the faster they try to move, the slower they feel they progress.
The metaphor of a tornado is used to illustrate the fear and chaos that surrounds everyone. The singer wonders what it will take for things to change and who will be spared from the turbulence. They admit to trying to run away, but eventually realize that they have forgotten something important, leading them to decide to stay in one place and invite others to join them if they wish.
The second half of the song takes a more hopeful tone as the singer asks someone to stay with them. They find comfort and youthfulness in this person's presence, as the wind stops howling and they no longer feel cold. Despite acknowledging the trouble and pain that surrounds them, they choose to remain together, ignoring the outside world's complaints.
Overall, the lyrics of "Stand Still" express the desire for respite from the fast-paced world and the importance of finding stillness and companionship. It encourages slowing down, appreciating the present moment, and finding solace in the simplicity of standing still with someone.

I watched Lauren live last night and she sounds absolutely incredible live!!! The power in her voice and her love for the craft comes through. I liked all of her songs lyrically (Box of Wine made us laugh), but if I had to choose a favorite, I'd say "Stand Still" would have to be it. Lauren whatever happens, g-g-g-g-girl you have talent. Don't doubt, believe. God bless. Oh and thank you for a wonderful show =D
