Stranger
LeAnn Rimes & Bon Jovi Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But it's harder to be friends
Baby pull down the covers
It's time you let me in
Maybe light a couple candles
I'll just go ahead and lock the door
If you just talk to me baby
'Til we ain't strangers anymore
Lay your head on my pillow
I sit beside you on the bed
Don't you think its time we say
Some things we haven't said
It ain't too late to get back to that place
Back to where, we thought it was before
Why don't you look at me
'Til we ain't strangers anymore
Sometimes it's hard to love me
Sometimes it's hard to love you too
I know it's hard believing
That love can pull us through
It would be so easy
To live your life
With one foot out the door
Just hold me baby
'Til we ain't strangers anymore
It's hard to find forgiveness
When we just turn off the lights
It's hard to say you're sorry
When you cant tell wrong from right
It would be so easy
To spend your whole damn life
Just keeping score
So lets get down to it baby
There ain't no need to lie
Tell me who you think you see
When you look into my eyes
Lets put our two hearts back together
And we'll leave the broken pieces on the floor
Make love with me baby
'Til we ain't strangers anymore
We're not strangers anymore
We're not strangers
We're not strangers anymore
In this song, LeAnn Rimes is essentially asking her partner to let her in emotionally and physically, to open up to her and be vulnerable. She acknowledges that it may be difficult to transition from being friends to lovers, but also recognizes that being friends without that deeper connection is even harder. She suggests that lighting some candles and locking the door may help set the mood for them to connect intimately, but also emphasizes the importance of communication in getting to that place. Rimes urges her partner not to hold back and to share their thoughts and feelings with one another until they are no longer strangers.
The song also touches on the idea of forgiveness and making amends in a relationship. Rimes acknowledges that it can be hard to forgive and apologize, but emphasizes that love can help overcome those obstacles. She urges her partner not to keep score and instead focus on rebuilding their relationship together. The closing lines of the song emphasize the idea that they are no longer strangers - they have the potential to reconnect and build a stronger, more intimate relationship.

We don't have to pretend anymore
Tell me who you think you see
Share with me who you really are
When you look into my eyes

Lets put our two hearts back together
Let's try to rebuild our relationship
And we'll leave the broken pieces on the floor
Let's move on from our past mistakes and start anew
Make love with me baby
Connect with me both physically and emotionally
'Til we ain't strangers anymore
Until we feel like we really know each other
We're not strangers anymore
We've connected emotionally and know each other better
We're not strangers
We're familiar with each other's emotions, feelings and past experiences
We're not strangers anymore
We've built a strong bond which doesn't make us strangers anymore

This is the very first time I've heard this beautiful song. I love LeAnn Rimes and her gorgeous voice and I think that Jon Bon Jovi is just the best. These two singing a duet is just the best thing ever.
