Mama Who Bore Me
Lea Michele and girls Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Mamma who gave me
No way to handle things
Who made me so sad
Mamma, the weeping
Mamma, the Angels
No sleep in Heaven
Some pray that one day, Christ will come a'-callin'
They light a candle and hope that it glows
And some just lie there crying for Him to come and find them
But when He comes they don't know how to go
Mamma who bore me
Mamma who gave me
No way to handle things
Who made me so bad
Mamma, the weeping
Mamma, the Angels
No sleep in Heaven
Or Bethlehem
The lyrics of "Mama Who Bore Me" describe the pain, confusion, and emotional turmoil that a young girl experiences as she navigates the difficult journey of self-discovery and coming of age. The first verse suggests that the girl feels lost and helpless because she was not given the tools necessary to deal with difficult situations. She is filled with sadness and is struggling to understand why she is feeling this way.
The second verse introduces the idea of a mother figure who is weeping and surrounded by angels. This mother figure is likely a symbol for the young girl's own mother or perhaps a maternal figure that she yearns for. The mention of "no sleep in Heaven or Bethlehem" indicates that this mother figure is in a state of eternal unrest, perhaps due to the pain and suffering of the world.
The final verse shifts to a more religious theme, with references to Christ and prayers for his return. However, even those who pray for him to come do not necessarily know how to truly connect with him or navigate the challenges of life in a meaningful way.
Overall, the lyrics of "Mama Who Bore Me" are poignant and introspective, evoking a sense of vulnerability and raw emotion that is both relatable and deeply moving.

So can loads of nice people 🙃

Enough with cancel culture. So she was a (b)itch to people. She has gone through things in life that we can only imagine and has come out the other side stronger. Glasshouses people.
Pulp Ted
@Vinny P nobody is aganist redemption. But going away for a few years and not addressing your reputation makes it look like she wants people to forget about her past. Louis CK is just starting to be redeemed after years.

@Vinny P Lol the idea behind cancel culture is that we refuse to ignore people's bad behavior just because they're talented. "So she was a bitch to people" is literally you dismissing bad behavior. Of course she should be allowed to make amends and move on with her life if she chooses to be a better person, but that doesn't mean that we should just assume that she's done so and look the other way.
