I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
They got a crazy little women there
And I'm gonna get me some.
I'll be standing on the corner
On the corner of Twelfth Street and Vine
I'm gonna be standing on the corner
On the corner of Twelfth Street and Vine
With my Kansas City baby
And a bottle of Kansas City wine.
Well I might take a train
I might take a plane, but if I have to walk
I'm gonna get there just the same
I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
They got a crazy way of loving there
And I'm gonna get me some.
I'm gonna pack my clothes
Leave at the break of dawn
I'm gonna pack my clothes
Everybody will be sleeping
Nobody will know where I've gone
Cause if I stay in town
I know I'm gonna die.
Gotta find a friendly city
And that's the reason why,
I'm going to Kansas City
Kansas City here I come
They got a crazy way of loving there
And I'm gonna get me some.

This song was written in 1952 by two teenagers Leiber and Stoller, who were 19 years at that time. The song was recorded over 300 times.

It's always great to find out the origin of a song. Most people would never know that this was the original version. One thing that the internet & social media has done is to make it easy to find virtually any song you can think of. Unfortunately it has also removed the joy of searching for & finding obscure records.

One of the biggest thrills of my life was meeting Mike Stoller and shaking his hand, in 2016. I will never get over the fact that two young teenaged Jewish kids from my own LA neighborhood wrote this legendary track!!

Jeff Reese

Today is the first time I heard this version. I really like it!

Great Song played by most bands in my home town in the early 60's (though generally with the Wilbert Harrison lyrics). around sixty years later our little trio plays it all the time. A classic.

Julie Brown

Wow! The original! I had no idea Lieber & Stoller wrote this great song.

Mico Veliki

Yep except the title is misleading this IS NOT THE ORIGINAL song they stole it down south from a blues master in Memphis

Hal Davis

@Mico Veliki Who did they steal it from?

Mico Veliki

@Hal Davis the original song was by the memphis blues legend Jim Jackson who recorded Kansas City Blues in 1927 .By some sources it was the first million copy record sold ..
