Happy ever after
Lera Lynn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This morn I woke in my
Hat and my coat and I
Picked up the phone to call you
But I hung up soon
Before you even knew
Thinking someone else could be beside you
You can run, you can hide
You can save it all inside
Sooner than later it'll find you
Yes and maybe it has
Somewhere in the past
But somehow it still slipped by you
Oh it slipped by you
Oh it slipped by you
Well it's not your fault
I pushed you to walk
Straight into the forest of disaster
With a blindfold on
Singing you a song of
Innocence and happy ever after
Well I run and I hide
And I save it all inside
But I know that soon it'll find me
Yes and maybe it has
Somewhere in the past
But somehow it still slipped by me

Oh it slipped by me
Oh it slipped by me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lera Lynn's song "Happy Ever After" depict a sense of regret and self-blame as the singer acknowledges their role in a failing relationship. The first verse describes the singer waking up in their hat and coat, suggesting a restless and unsettled state of mind. They attempt to call their partner but hang up before speaking, indicating a fear of rejection or vulnerability. The singer reflects on the possibility of their partner being with someone else, highlighting their insecurity and paranoia. The chorus emphasizes the theme of avoidance, encouraging the listener to "run, hide, and save it all inside" despite knowing that their problems will eventually catch up to them.

The second verse shifts the focus to the singer's own actions. They admit to leading their partner into a "forest of disaster" while wearing a blindfold, symbolizing their own ignorance or denial of the relationship's issues. The singer sings about innocence and the belief in "happy ever after", implying a lack of awareness about the complexities and challenges of love. The chorus is repeated, with the singer acknowledging their own guilt and admitting that problems may have already arisen in the past without their realization.

Overall, "Happy Ever After" explores the emotional turmoil of a failing relationship and the difficulty of accepting responsibility for one's own contribution to the issues. The lyrics portray a sense of longing for an idealized version of love, while simultaneously acknowledging the reality of its imperfections.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I just had the pleasure of discovering this talented trio with Lera Lynn's beautiful voice when they opened for KD Lang last night in Red Bank NJ at the Count Basie Theater. A pleasant surprise and great performance, and the crowd loved them.

Lera Lynn and the musicians that she collaborates with are amazingly talented. One of the best gigs I can recall was seeing Lera at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds, England a few years back. Looking forward to new albums in the future!
