Let Me In
Leroux Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're a light in a room
At the end of the hall
Try tho' I may it seems
I never see it all
Only a glimmer
Slipping under the door
I think I could love you
But you know I'm waiting for you
To open up

Open up
Baby, won't you open up

Baby, won't you let me in
Why won't you let me in
Maybe we can try again
Baby, won't you open up
Let me in
Baby, won't you let me in
Baby, we can try again
Baby, won't you open up
And let me in

Oh, I know it hurts you
And you hold it all inside
Maybe I could set you free
If our two hearts collide

I just need to know you
Don't you let it slip away
Your love is like a child
Won't you let it come out to play

You gotta let it out

Oh, let it out
Baby, won't you let it out

Overall Meaning

In Leroux's song "Let Me In," the singer addresses someone they admire and care for deeply, but who seems to be closed off and guarded. The opening lines set the scene of a metaphorical "room" with the person being the "light" at the end of the hall. Despite the singer's efforts to get closer to this person, they are only able to catch glimpses of their personality and true feelings - just a "glimmer" slipping under the door. The singer expresses a desire for this person to "open up" to them, allowing for a deeper connection and a chance at love.

Throughout the song, the singer repeats their plea for this person to "let me in" and to "open up." They express a belief that the two of them could "try again" and make things work if only the other person would let down their walls. The chorus repeats the phrase "baby, won't you let me in" and emphasizes the importance of communication and emotional vulnerability in a relationship.

The final verse of the song is particularly poignant. The singer acknowledges that the person they care for has likely been hurt before and may be afraid to open up again. However, they express a belief that if the two of them can come together, they can heal each other's pain and "set [the other person] free" from their emotional baggage. The song ends with a plea for the person to "let it out," to allow their love to come forth and be nurtured.
