My wife & I were at the Dallas show in Nov. of 1999. Gosh that was a different time... good times! When "Outside" was played the place went nuts, it was beautiful. The song wasn't yet topping the charts but there was a lot of buzz around it. I'm not kidding, there were just a handful in all of Reunion Arena who didn't have their lighters up. And you just knew you were witnessing something big, something special. No just the song, but whole tour itself.

I had no idea life would move this fast & I sure do miss those days. Again, they really were good times.

I was so lucky to be there in 99. I have since been Staind for Life. I've seen Staind and Aaron Solo to many times to count. I just seen him Sat. I WAS IN THE HOUSE THAT NIGHT!!!! IN MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLOSSEUM / BILOXI,MS "FAMILY VALUES TOUR" with Limp Biskit, Korn and Staind headlining the show. Later found out that Aaron Lewis wrote "Outside" backstage that night then he appeared on stage with Fred Durst where he sung it for the first time. Awesome song Aaron

Yes indeed! I was at the show in Biloxi, Mississippi.... Great show! True story... At the show when Aaron sang the song he screwed up the lyric during the bridge. He added the words into the song, "I can't believe, I sung the wrong words" right into the song without missing a beat! Everyone went crazy cheering him on!

Also, as cool as it would have been for him to have wrote the song back stage that night, it's not true. I knew the song word for word that night of the show because I had heard it a million times before. So unless I somehow managed to tap into Aaron's brain waves that night, he most definitely did not write it backstage. Still to this day one of the most epic performances/songs out there. 🤟🏻

@@southerngal9087 I’ve seen the video of him saying that while doing an acoustic performance of his set. I mis-spoke in my previous comment. It was on their song “It’s been a while” that he sung the wrong lyric not “Outside”. In all fairness that was many, many years ago 😂 My almost 40 year old brain doesn’t remember things like it used too haha. Still to this day I love their music though!

That last stanza of verses, my god. The absolute pain and self-torture on his face. I identified wholly and completely with that back in 2001, which was the worst, hardest year of my 52+ years. My life was his face and his anguish, but his music helped me survive. An amazing performance by a unique artist. You saved my life. You gave vent to my own anguish and hopelessness. Thank. You.

Aaron Lewis is truly one of the greatest artist of our times. He started rockn hard only to get back to his roots. That story is told very well in Country Boy. I can understand just how hard it would be to try and make it as a country artist afterall your following the names like Cash, Jennings, Nelson, only to name a few. Praise to you Aaron Lewis you are great no matter the genre. Thanks

I normally don't prefer a live version to studio version but this is definitely the exception. The difference in the two can be summarized by this analogy. Have someone tell you about the most beautiful sunset they have ever seen, describing it in detail the colors and shapes of the clouds they saw. Or, view with your own eyes the most breathtaking sunset you have ever seen, the majesty and awe inspiring emotions you feel from experiencing yourself. In the live version he conveys such emotion in his voice you can't help but feel the pain in his heart as deeply as he does himself. Never fails to bring tears to my eyes.

This was the song that made me start liking Staind. Then it just became more about Aaron. I mean how many true artists do you see like him?? Now he’s country. But I still think it’s more about the acoustics and the words to his songs that keep me a true fan. One of the last of a dying breed. The man can sing whatever he wants and he makes it his own. I applaud him for this. & I can say after 19 years, it was an amazing thing to actually meet him. 😊 Keep on doing you!
