my analysis on what happens in this mv since the magician mv clears some things up 🍀
lexie pulls 3 tarot cards which describes what’s going to happen to her. she first reveals the ‘wheel of fortune’ card. this represents that a change in fortune is coming her way and is a reminder of the cyclic nature of fate.
her friend is killed by a truck carrying lemons. kind of a sick twist on the “when life gives you lemons” saying, but her death motivates lexie in her races. the shot of the friend cheering while holding a lemon is just her as a ghost 2:08.
the ‘star’ card is revealed next. this card represents being blessed by the universe, especially after turmoil/trauma. lexie literally becomes a famous celebrity athlete called lucky star. however, she left the memory of her friend behind in the process as she disappears after 2:43.
you can see at 3:30 that lexie looks a little dissatisfied at her celebrity life. once she’s back in her car, she’s holding only half a lemon as opposed to the whole lemon her friend handed her before, which reminds her about what she’s lost/forgotten. even though she's been blessed with good fortune, that does not equal happiness for her.
this is where the ‘wheel of fortune’ card comes back into play cause in the beginning (0:18) we see that she has it in the car. the thing about the cyclic spinning nature of fortune is that it can spin backwards.
the tarot card has the letters T A R O on the wheel which can be read as different words depending on the direction you read it. lexie first spells out the words that are read clockwise, and then she shifts to the words read counterclockwise 3:15.
she exits the car and we see her go back in time as the newspapers fly in reverse and she switches to her school uniform (the wheel of fortune spinning backwards). we see her friend again who’s wearing a bloody shirt since she’s dead. now this time, lexie decides to die with her friend. which we know since in the next mv, it starts off with both of them with bloody shirts standing by the road!!
the last card revealed is ‘death’, but this card can also represent rebirth/new beginnings. I think on one hand it refers to how it seems like they’re kind of stuck in this cycle of rebirth (0:33 “wanna see how dead you were”) or it’s about lexie breaking the cycle, leading us into the next mv.
ultimately, i thinkkk the mv plays with this idea of fate/fortune controlling your life. but in the magician, it’s all about lexie finding the power to control everything in the universe and to make things happen how she wants !
there’s more details that relate to the magician mv but i’ll comment it there lmao.

Watching for a second time, I think her friends died at the very beginning right before Lexie won the first race. (yes, I wrote a lot. I'm on my break and I have free time!!!)
The video starts with her in the car, looking at the Wheel of the Fortune card between the flowers she received, remembering how she got there. We hear the sound of the breaks being pulled and we go back to her past to see the story.
Her friend talks about her looking dead and takes out the Fortune card, so maybe Lexie was the only one who survived the crash. The mv shows the scene of her friend giving her a lemon from the floor and in the race she's the only one cheering Lexie up while holding a lemon (2:08).
The mv make it seems like her friends are still alive, then the Star card is revealed and she is pulled out of the class to be coached by that guy. For me, it was a metaphor for her focusing on her career and moving on from the (literal) ghosts of the past. We don't see her friends anymore.
After she gets brand deals and gets famous like her previous cards predicted, Lexie realizes in the car that she forgot about her friend and was now only holding half a lemon instead of the Wheel of the Fortune card.
She runs to the beach they used to hang around and between the scenes of her friend looking back with blood on her clothes, it also shows someone rolling in the sand (4:05) with lemons on the background, so something must've happened to Lexie as well, hence the Death card.
And then they reunite again; the same scene of her friend giving her the lemon plays again, like she was waiting for Lexie all this time since the crash that killed them.

Lexie Liu has tons of good songs, and whilst I do prefer some of her other work over this, this one's actually not bad. It has its moments where it's good and some that are, to me, questionable but overall the song's a bop. If you don't like it, drop a thumbs down, drop a comment of how much you dislike it, and don't listen to it again. You have no business telling other people what to think of it.
