1. A metalcore band from Massachusetts, USA.
2. A female fronted traditional metal band from Ulm, Germany.
3. A death metal band from the USA (Kansas City, Missouri), formerly called Nepenthe, and now split-up.
1) Ligeia was formed in Springfield, MA, in 2003 with the original lineup of singer Keith Holuk, guitarists Ryan Ober and Chris Keane, bassist Matthew Bennett, and drummer Phil Fonseca. Signed to the New Jersey-based metalcore imprint Ferret Records (Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, etc.), the band released their debut album, Your Ghost Is A Gift, in the spring of 2006. Following the album's release, Bennett and Fonseca were replaced by new bassist Bryan Forbes and drummer Ryan Irizarry.
As a collective body, this band has and always will strive to create the most honest, heartfelt, emotional music that they can. On "Your Ghost Is A Gift", their powerful Ferret Music debut album, Ligeia surely showcases just that. These five young men have poured their hearts and souls into ten tracks rich in raw and powerful emotion. Recorded and produced by Ken Susi of Unearth (If Hope Dies, Since the Flood), "Your Ghost Is A Gift" is as brilliant a debut as any, and is destined to become an instant favorite and hold its own as one of the most riveting hardcore around. In 2008 they released their album "Bad News" through Ferret Music as well.
Ligeia called it quits mid-year of 2009. But in 2011 they self-released an EP called Welcome To Palm City.
Early 2011 Ligeia created the album Welcome To Palm City and then headed to tour among the begining of the tour they called it quits once again. The album they released, Ligeia decided to let the world download it for free and not put it on a disc. The intentions were that music should be free and heartfelt.

The lyrics in Ligeia's "Bad News" describe a person who has constantly been dealt the short end of the stick and is at the end of their rope. The use of "since day one" and "nothing new to me" suggests that this person has been dealing with bad circumstances for a long time, possibly their entire life. The lyric "Can anyone give me a fucking break?" shows the desperation and exhaustion that the person feels.
The chorus of the song expresses the person's attempts to keep going despite everything they are facing, but ultimately feeling defeated. The lyric "I'm over the edge now every fucking day" suggests that they are getting closer and closer to their breaking point. The person has been trying to fix their situation, but nothing seems to be working.
