Runnin'
Lil' Wayne Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

{Justice league)

The loser microphone abuser
Feet hurtin' I just walked from Jerusalem
So you should get on the side with the movement
I'm the proofs and I'll die just to prove it

Whatcha wanna know? Anything whatever.
I can't tell ya
I can show ya better
Me and my gun, we took an oath together
Said I will never die, if we both together
Yeah, this is my testification
I'm Wayne on their hands like precipitation
And in hell you, you need justification
But, but for me it was just a vacation

Somebody tell me when's it gonna end
Where's it gonna end up
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Run it all
When's it gonna end
Where's it gonna end up
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Run it all

I lost all my money
I lost half my mind
Can't find my direction
Where's the finish line
Could I be far away from it all
How far to go
If I can stay for it all
Then I shouldn't fall.

But if I fall I fall up
And let the clouds hug me
And if I fall down
I bet I hit the ground runnin'
Bet you search and found nothing
Looking for the finish line
Stop short cuttin'
You f***ing up your finish time
S***, but every twice in a while
It feels like I'm runnin'
And life is the miles
Yeah, but until the lights dimmin' down
I'll be runnin' 'round
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'

(Oh, will you tell)
Somebody tell me when's it gonna end
Where's it gonna end up
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Run it all
When's it gonna end
Where's it gonna end up
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Run it all

Counting all my pennies but it doesn't add up
At the mercy but somehow it ain't enough
Reading all the red lights trying not to give up
But I don't know how long it's gonna last all

It's almost over now
I say it's almost over now
The end is gettin' closer now
Better do what you suppose to cause
The world is all so short

Somebody tell me when's it gonna end
Where's it gonna end up
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Run it all
When's it gonna end
Where's it gonna end up
Runnin'
Runnin'
Runnin'
Run it all
When's it gonna end
Where's it gonna end
Runnin'
Run it all

Yeah I'm runnin' outta time
I'm runnin' out of space
Fell like I'm runnin' round
But I'm runnin' in place
We all in the race
I'm just another sprinter

If there's no finish line
Then who's the real winner?

Overall Meaning

In the song "Runnin" by Lil Wayne, the rapper uses various metaphors and similes to express his struggles in life, both personal and professional. The song begins with Wayne claiming himself to be the "loser microphone abuser," suggesting that he has been underestimated and overlooked in the music industry. Nonetheless, he is committed to the movement and proves this by walking from Jerusalem to show his dedication. Wayne also talks about the close relationship the gun has with him, and they both have taken an oath together that he will never die as long as they stay together. The rapper is seen taking his time before reaching the finish line.

The chorus of the song continuously reiterates the question, "When's it gonna end? Where's it gonna end up?" through a repetition of the word "runnin" and concludes with Wayne admitting he is running out of time and space which has left him feeling as though he is in the same place as he started from.

Throughout the song, Wayne explores his achievements, losses, direction, and goals, all while facing the realities of the obstacles he has encountered and the obstacles he may still face. Overall, the song is about perseverance; it highlights the need to hold onto hope rather than losing faith in oneself.

Wayne's rebirth album was so underrated. It generally received negative feedback from critcs. I would have personally given wayne an A+ for this album, he introduced a lot of sentiment in it, and also managed to combine hip hop and rock flawlessly

Wayne has done what other rappers haven't done before especially dropping a rock album.. People should stop comparing Young Thug to this legend for real..
