Your Side Of The Bed
LittleBigTown Lyrics

On your side of the bed, there's a picture of our wedding day
A clock that don't work and the bible that your daddy gave
It's on the window side, where the moon creeps in at night
Staring at the ceiling, lying here all alone
I said a prayer for you, then I said one of my own
But you don't reach for me, when you lie down quietly

Tell me how, how'd you get so far away?
All we have left, are the memories of the love we made
Are you sleeping with your own regret?
On your side of the bed

On your side of the bed there's a burnt down candle flame
A letter I've started but I didn't know what to say
No I couldn't write it down, so I try to say it now

Tell me how, how'd you get so far away?
All we have left, are the memories of the love we made
Are you sleeping with your own regret?
On your side of the bed

Aren't you even gonna make a sound?
Your side of the bed
Turn the other way when I turn the lights down
Your side of the bed
Are you lonely? Like I'm lonely?

How, how'd you get so far away?
All we have left are the memories of the love we made
Are you sleeping with your own regret?
Tell me how, how'd you get so far away?
All we have left, are the memories of the love we made
Are you sleeping with your own regret?
On your side of the bed

On your side of the bed
Are you still awake, on your side of the bed.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Your Side of the Bed" by LittleBigTown tells the story of a troubled relationship between two partners. The singer is lying on the bed, looking at her partner's side, where she sees a picture of their wedding day, a non-working clock, and a Bible that her partner's father gave him. While lying there, she says a prayer for her partner, hoping that he would reach for her and comfort her, but he does not. As she lies there, she realizes that she and her partner are no longer as close as they used to be. She feels lonely and abandoned, wondering how her partner got so far away from her. She questions whether her partner is sleeping with his own regret on his side of the bed.

Furthermore, on her partner's side of the bed, she sees a burnt-out candle, which signifies the end of their relationship. She also sees an unfinished letter, indicating that her partner has something to say, but he can't find the words. The singer is pleading with her partner to speak to her, to tell her what is wrong, and that she is lonely like he is.

In essence, the song suggests that the couple is struggling to salvage their relationship. While the singer has seen the signs of their relationship falling apart, the partner is not willing to confront the problem. Thus, the two of them are left sleeping in the same bed, but they might as well be sleeping in different rooms.

This song really hits home. 5 1/2 years together and I'm wondering if we'll survive another day. Feels like we are both strangers to one another.

Not just one of the best country songs but one of the best songs period. My Wife and I's simple motto is " turn to each other, not away from each other ". It's gotten us this far.

This was the song that introduced me to this hugely talented band and I had hoped to hear it live at a recent concert in Scotland as it's still one of my favourites. Sadly it wasn't on the set list but they are fantastic live musicians and singers and it was a memorable night.

@nickoleme

This song is still dope, it is one of those that you can hear 20yrs later and still appreciate.
