It reminds me of my wife who loved me for 43 years. She gave me a beautiful son so much like her who is almost 35. She passed away on Mother’s Day in 2022. I miss her so much. My Mom used to sing this song to my Dad when she was pregnant with me. They were high school sweethearts, fell MADLY in love, got married at 18 in 1968. Then they had my sister in 1969 and me in 1974. We had 11 years together as the sweetest, most loving family unit until Hodgkins disease took Dad in 1985. Mom died in 2015 and my sister died in 2019. Now I hear this song and think about how close and happy we were. I know I will see them all again, but it is very hard to be the only one left walking around on Earth. I cannot hear this song without crying as it was who we were.

Forty years ago I was a freshman in college dating a high school junior who I knew I wanted to spend my life with. A friend down the hall in my dorm loaned me an 8-track that had this version of this song. I dreamed of the day when we could have our "son" and spend our lives together. Now we are empty-nesters. Our daughter came first, and then three sons. Now we have a grandson and grand daughter. Life has been good. Lots of laughs, a few tears, but I wouldn't change the way it's worked out. My step-mom was born in 52, A hippy child. She married my straight-laced cop dad in '82 when I was 12. She died in 2000 suddenly and I had this at her service. It's all her, her smiles, her dancing and I love this song.

I was 10 years old in 1974, the first child of music loving parents, now married almost 60 years. I was raised on this and a million other brilliant songs by everyone from James Taylor to Janis Joplin to Carlos Santana to Led Zeppelin. The 70's were a wonderful time to be alive. I'm grateful that there was, and still is, music playing in my Mom and Dad's home. Their enduring love and the sound of music surrounding us is the absolute seat of happiness in my life. This song is just one smile in my 57 years of joy with my family.

This song really touches my heart. It takes me back to when my husband and I were teenage parents. Im sure people didnt think we'd make it. Here we are almost 32 years later. Our children turned out great. Were so proud of them. And guess what...we still dont have money and were still happy.

I was with my girlfriend who is now my wife and we were driving from Maryland to Buffalo NY to visit her grandmother. somewhere on the mountain in PA we drove thru a rain cloud but I could see the sun shinning down in the valley and this song came on. This is the first time I’ve been able to listen to this song since the day my dad passed away, 3/2/22. This was the last song that quietly played in the hospital room on my phone as I sat next to him and held his hand. At the end, I just wanted silence and for him to relax and be at peace, just him and I there, going through that together. It was a sacred moment, he wouldn’t have had it any other way. He lived a life I was proud of, for him. I’ve never known someone so real and raw … salt of the earth, if you will. He meant the whole world to me, and I to him.. and it was an honor to be his daughter. The 3 songs that came up on Pandora’s James Taylor radio were Shower the People by James Taylor, Slip Slidin Away by Paul Simon and lastly, this one. He loved these songs, I’m so thankful they played, and now they hold a new meaning in my heart.

I'm 59 and this is one of the best love songs ever written. It just fills my heart with warmth. I grew up learning astrology from my mom who was a gypsy soul and I always wanted to meet a Pisces, Virgo rising and tonight I did. A beautiful, sweet woman name Laurie and she such a kind person like Kenny said. I feel so fulfilled and now I will always think of Laurie when I hear that song. I'm so happy. I was so young and my husband was 12 years older than me. This was my inspiration song as we had a daughter and we were broke. We were broke because he was a heroin addict. I loved that man more than I can ever say. I'm old now and this song still makes me cry because I saw so much hope then. Life kicks in and well, it still makes me cry.

What a sad story. I hope life is better for you, Dear. It's sad to watch someone destroy their life and their loved ones are helpless. My husband used to be homeless. I knew him when we were teens, we both lived in a campground with our families, we lost contact and met up about 30 years later, and we ended up married.. he told me his story and about his past, and that he had quit doing the things he used to , and I had to see he was telling the truth before we started a relationship, which he was. We have been married for 7 years now. This song is us, also. We don't have money, I wanted to give him a child but we didn't have children together, we don't have much of anything, but we love each other.

Lost my father a few years ago. My mother was his EVERYTHING!! Even if she was wrong she could do NO wrong in his eyes. Music was his love language. And my mother learned so much of that from him. She's still with me, I feel like she would love this if I told her, I would make this "their song". My father did music for Oprah and other artists so music runs in my blood. I'm his youngest, and I had a relationship with him so unique from all my other siblings. We would vibe off sooo many genres of music. I will be 62 this year & I am so glad I was born when I was, especially because of all the great music that has been a huge part of my life, & all of the concerts I've been to. Believe it or not, growing up in a suburb of Los Angeles, Calif. until mid 70s, front & back doors at home were left unlocked, car were left unlocked with the keys in the ignition! It was free to park at the beach parking lots, (we were upset when they started charging 25 cents a day!) gangs & guns were not part of everyday life, never had drive by shootings, & I never saw a homeless person until maybe early 1980s. And no I didn't grow up wealthy, or sheltered, we were a middle class family. And there was So Much great music that I can & do still enjoy today. Even though it isn't easy aging, music will always be here thru the good & bad times. Thank goodness

My parents were high school sweethearts and today is their 45th wedding anniversary. I have been extremely blessed to be the product of two such amazing, loving, and wonderful parents. I first heard this song on an acetone tape before it was released in the middle of the night because that day I didn’t go to the studio because my G.F. and I weren’t on the same page and missed it seeing it being recorded, but when I heard it I made a copy of it and bought it home and woke her up and played it for her and told her how much I loved her and she started to cry and then I cried with her, she was 3 months pregnant and I only just started working and we had almost nothing but my job and I made it my future and it all seems like a dream now and it also gave me the life that we are so lucky to have now with are 3 children who have finished college and have children of their own…

You know we live in a mess today, the america we grew up in is no more. It may be because we forgot the simple truths of songs like this. You know love covers a multitude of sins. We grew up poor as dirt, my mom and dad were always hustling to keep food on the table for 5 kids. My brother Mike and I would go pick up my mom from work, many times 16 hr shifts at a nursing home. We’d sit in the parking lot waiting as 11P became closer to 12. Here would come LuLu with a smile on her face. I miss her what a lady. We didn’t have much but we had each other and the Lord which is actually a lot. Blessings

I lament how segmented the world has become, with people clustering into their little music cliques, walled away more and more from exposure to great songs. I've read that since about 2003 radio stations and satellite have relied on algorithm-driven predictive playlists, & those playlists are so limited they're virtually useless.
