Cry
Lol Creme Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't know how to ease my pain
You don't know
You don't know how to ease my pain
You don't know what the sound is darlin'
It's the sound of my tears fallin'
Or is it the rain?
You don't know how to play the game
You cheat
You lie
You make me wanna cry
You make me wanna cry
Cry...
You make me wanna cry
You don't know how to ease my pain
You don't know
You don't know how to ease my pain
Don't you hear any voices cryin'?
That's the sound of my love dyin'
Here comes the rain
You don't know how to play the game
You cheat
You lie
You don't even know how to say goodbye
You make me wanna cry
You don't know
You don't even know how to say goodbye
You make me wanna cry
You don't even know how to say goodbye
You make me wanna cry
Cry...
Cry

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lol Creme's song "Cry" convey a sense of frustration and emotional pain caused by a broken relationship. The first verse reveals that the person being addressed is unable to ease the singer's pain. The repetition of the line "You don't know how to ease my pain" emphasizes the feeling of helplessness that the singer experiences. The second verse implies that the person being addressed has cheated and lied, which have caused the singer to cry. The lines "You make me wanna cry/Cry..." are repeated in the chorus and emphasize the emotional turmoil that the singer is feeling.

In the third verse, the singer asks if the person being addressed hears the sound of voices crying, which the singer explains is the sound of their love dying. The last two lines of this verse, "Here comes the rain/You don't know how to play the game," suggest that the relationship is coming to an end, perhaps due to the actions of the person being addressed. The final chorus repeats the line "You don't know how to say goodbye," and the repetition of the word "Cry" throughout emphasizes the pain and emotional distress of the singer.

Overall, the lyrics of "Cry" convey a sense of heartbreak, disappointment, and a desire for closure. The repetition of key phrases throughout the song emphasizes the emotional weight of the singer's experience, and the use of rain and tears as imagery signals the sadness and grief that the singer is feeling.

1985: still amazing after all these years. The video was far ahead of its time, and Godley and Creme, with Trevor Horn producing, made a record that still stands the test of time.

I was more partial to Max Headroom but this song a tear jerker!

I remember driving on a gray, rainy summer day and this song came on, almost perfectly to the rhythm of the windshield wipers. I've never forgotten that.

@quota77

what kind of car?

@seanpratchler1888 --That's a great story, and I can relate because something similar happened to me. I was once stopped at a railroad crossing, with Tom Petty's American Girl playing on the radio. The crossing's lights and bell were were exactly in sync with the song's refrain. And I mean exactly. I couldn't but laugh out loud, and because I was alone in the car, it must have made a weird site to the other drivers alongside. I didn't care, it was a great moment.

What a unique and mesmerizing song. Absolutely amazing. I was 12 when this came out (first heard it on Miami Vice), I’m almost 50 now. Time flies.
