The scenes with Maleva in this scene and in Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man are superb. She's pained by the death of her son, but he's also free of the curse. The curse passes on to Larry, and tries her best to help him. As though Larry were her own son.
Thomas DiMaggio
Maria Ouspenskaya was such a thoroughly CONVINCING actress! (She was also an acting teacher, and by all accounts a superb one). She implicitly says, with her every word, gesture and expression: "What do you mean I'm not a wise old gypsy woman, who's knowledgeable about the occult? I've been one all my life."
Alicia Nyblade
Right? She's like, "Come on, does it not look like I know my stuff? I know my stuff, man. Here--take this charm, for free!" It's a great scene, the classic one of the protagonist doubting the mysterious character who obviously knows what they're talking about.

@Thomas DiMaggio I agree, she was perfect as the gypsy
David Hanshaw
She was absolutely chilling in this film. The entire film would not be the same without her having been in it. She was a master of her craft.
Fairy Tales To Astonish
She was the best character in the original Wolfman. It’s sad she’s barley in the 2010 remake.

Chaney Jr.'s performance in this is my favorite in film history.
AWDTH1111
His acting seemed so multifaceted and ahead of his time. He and Jimmy Stewart are probably my most memorable in this era.
TheMovieDoctorful
@AWDTH1111 he reminds me a lot of Hayden Christensen with his shaky voice and soulful eyes.

Chaney Jr has to be one of the greatest exponents of the perpetually haunted man. this scene is one of my favourite scenes ever, made immortal it has to be said, by Maria Ouspenskaya's calm threat. I wonder when the studios will wake up to the folly of re-tread re-makes, and put out the originals. they would still grace a screen with all the magic they had in their day. The Universal films still remain the definitive article for me, personally. Re-making 'The Wolfman' is OK - but re-making Lon Chaney Jr's Wolfman, and hoping for the same mysterious power, is catching lightning in a bottle twice.
