Looking for You
Lone Bellow Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Was easy to see
It took you away
Further from me
Shifting through this house and photographs
I think of you
Much more than I should
And I'm falling down
Like its holy ground
I'm looking for you again
I'm looking for you again
Small regrets
That live in the dark
I've written them down
But I know them by heart
Counted the cost of this loneliness
I've paid for my crime
And some day I'll die
With you in my mind
And I'm falling down
Like its holy ground
I'm looking for you again
I'm looking for you again
I'm not letting you go again
Now letting this story end
I'm not letting you go again
Now letting this story end
Oh we're all not letting you go again
I'm not letting the story end
Oh I'm not letting you go again
I'm not letting this story end
And I'm falling down
Like its holy ground
I'm looking for you again
I'm looking for you again
And I can't go without
And there's always down
I'm looking for you again
I'm looking for you again
The Lone Bellow's song "Looking For You" is a reflective piece narrated by someone who is struggling to come to terms with a past relationship, the separation from their significant other and the loneliness that came with it. The lyrics convey a sense of yearning, longing and a profound sadness mixed with hopefulness. The opening lines "Your break down, Was easy to see, It took you away, Further from me" suggest that the person they were in love with, may have had a breakdown of some sort leading to their separation. The lines "Shifting through this house and photographs, I think of you, Much more than I should, More than I should" convey that, despite trying to move on, the singer is still hopelessly drawn to their memories and thoughts of the person they miss.
The chorus "And I'm falling down, Like it's holy ground, I'm looking for you again" is a lamentation of their loneliness and their desperate search for their significant other. They are trying to find what was lost, and they feel that their search is similar to a spiritual quest on hallowed ground. The bridge "Counted the cost of this loneliness, I've paid for my crime, And some day I'll die, With you in my mind" is a poignant reminder that the singer is taking responsibility for their role in the separation, but also is hopeful that they will be reunited with the one they love in the afterlife. The final chorus "I'm not letting you go again, Now letting this story end" is a testament to the singer's refusal to give up hope and let their love story come to an end.

Your break down
Your mental collapse
Was easy to see
Was clearly visible
It took you away
It separated you from me
Further from me
Drove us further apart
Shifting through this house and photographs
Going through memories in our home
I think of you
Thoughts of you linger
Much more than I should
More than what is healthy
Small regrets
Minor mistakes
That live in the dark
That haunt me in the depths of my mind
I've written them down
Documented them for reflection
But I know them by heart
Memorized them in my soul
Counted the cost of this loneliness
Reflected on the price of being alone
I've paid for my crime
Suffered for my faults
And some day I'll die
One day I will pass away
With you in my mind
Thinking of you at the end
And I'm falling down
Losing control
Like its holy ground
As if it's a sacred experience
I'm looking for you again
Searching for you once more
I'm not letting you go again
Refusing to lose you again
Now letting this story end
Refusing to let our story conclude
Oh we're all not letting you go again
We will not release you
I'm not letting the story end
Refusing to allow our story to end
And I can't go without
Unable to live without
And there's always down
Existence contains moments of hardship
I'm looking for you again
Still searching for you

It's been long...too long...since music has affected me like this. "The Lone Bellow" is a great freakin' band! A lead singer that can squeeze emotion out of every line, and guitar and harmonizing that will break your heart. There is an old quality to this song and their music. Let's hope this epic band can bring true music back!

They had only just done their first album when you wrote this comment, Carolanne Larson. I, too, recently discovered them, and am "smitten" by their sound, performances, vocals, harmonies. Reminds me, oddly, of the passion of U2 when they weren't 'huge" yet. CHEERS .....

I was thinking while I listened to it, "This sounds so much like Matthew Perryman Jones..." then I found out that he actually wrote it! So gorgeous, i love this song.
