China Mountain (named after a mountain range in southern Oregon) was recorded over a year in her basement bedroom, and mixed in a Seattle studio with Trespassers bandmate Matt Brown. Most of the songs are built around acoustic guitar and several tracks of voice, and a bit of harmonica, keys, drums, ukulele, and harp. She was assisted on a few songs by friends - including Jeff Martin of Idaho on two of the album's tracks. China Mountain is available to buy now at www.saintlouprecords.com

Enjoy the Silence
Lotte Kestner Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand?
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
Enjoy the silence
The lyrics to Lotte Kestner's Enjoy the Silence explore the idea of the power of words and the importance of silence. The opening lines, "Words like violence, break the silence, come crashing in, into my little world" immediately set the tone for the song. The use of 'violence' in place of 'words' is powerful as it indicates how harsh and harmful words can be. The use of the phrase 'little world' also highlights how vulnerable we can feel in the face of verbal attacks.
The chorus, "All I ever wanted, all I ever needed, is here in my arms. Words are very unnecessary, they can only do harm" emphasizes that what we truly crave is not so much the words but the connection we feel with another. The line "can't you understand, oh my little girl" shows vulnerability and tenderness to the person being addressed. The repeated refrain, "words are very unnecessary, they can only do harm," stresses the importance of silence and how it is sometimes the best way to show love.
The second verse, "vows are spoken to be broken, feelings are intense, words are trivial, pleasures remain so does the pain, words are meaningless and forgettable" explores the idea that words can be hollow when actions don't back them up. The singer suggests that feelings themselves are more important than words, and that words can be easily forgotten with time.
Overall, the lyrics of the song suggest that what we need most is not always words, but a deeper connection that transcends them. The song encourages us to think carefully about the power that our words have, and to value the importance of silence in building lasting relationships.
