She Walked Down The Aisle
Luísa Sobral Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She walked down the aisle
He felt so small he started to cry
Never had July been so cold
And then she smiled, he knew
She had never smiled that way before
He had been knocking
And no one behind the door
Many others were gone but he stayed strong
He was a crying shoulder
Hoping one day she'd see
He had been there all alone
Waiting for her to come home

And then the years gone by
He puts his big heart out in the rain
For someone to claim nobody came

Many others were gone but he stayed strong
He was a crying shoulder
Hoping one day she'd see
He had been there all alone
Waiting for her to come home

Many others were gone but he stayed strong
He was a crying shoulder
Hoping one day she'd see
He had been there all alone
Waiting for her to come home

She walked down the aisle
He felt so small he started to cry

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "She Walked Down The Isle" by Luisa Sobral tell a story of unrequited love and perseverance. The song begins with a poignant moment where the singer sees the person they love walking down the aisle, possibly about to marry someone else. The intense emotions overwhelm the singer, and they feel small and start crying. The mention of July being unusually cold reflects the emotional coldness the singer feels in this situation.

However, amidst the heartache, there is a glimmer of hope. The person the singer loves smiles in a way they have never seen before. This small gesture gives hope to the singer, as they realize that perhaps their love interest might not be as happy or fulfilled as they appear. The line "He had been knocking, and no one behind the door" suggests that the singer has been trying to get the attention or affection of their love interest but has faced rejection or indifference.

The second verse reveals the singer's resilient nature. Despite the absence of others who have given up, the singer stays strong. They become a support, a crying shoulder, for the person they love, even though they are always hoping for them to realize their feelings. The lyrics indicate that the singer has been patiently waiting for their love interest to return or acknowledge them.

As the years pass, the singer continues to put themselves out there, hoping for someone to claim their big heart. However, nobody comes forward to reciprocate their love. This reinforces the theme of unrequited love and the disappointment the singer faces.

Overall, the song portrays a story of love and longing, where the singer remains steadfast in their feelings despite facing rejection and heartache. It is a reflection on the bittersweet nature of unrequited love and the pain of waiting for someone who may never come back.

Apaixonante!

Brilhante.
