You're Not There
Lukas Graham Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I only got you in my stories
And you know I tell them right
Remember you and I, when I'm awake at night
So give it up for fallen glory
I never got to say goodbye
I wish I could ask for just a bit more time

Every step I take, you used to lead the way
Now I'm terrified to face it on my own

You're not there
To celebrate the man that you made
You're not there
To share in my success and mistakes
Is it fair?
You'll never know the person I'll be
You're not there
With me

Though I know that you're not there
I still write you all these songs
It's like, you still got the right to know what's going on
As I struggle to remember how you used to look and sound
Sometimes I still think I can spot you in the crowd

Every step I take, you used to lead the way
Now I'm terrified to face it on my own

You're not there
To celebrate the man that you made
You're not there
To share in my my success and mistakes
Is it fair?
You'll never know the person I'll be
You're not there
With me

Time can heal your wounds if
You're strong and standing tall
I've been doing all of that, it didn't help at all
They say you'll grow older, and it'll get better still
Yes, I will, but no it won't
They don't get it,

'Cause you're not there
To celebrate the man that you made
You're not there
To share in my my success and mistakes
Is it fair?
You'll never know the person I'll be

You're not there
With me

***** Maybe you're right but that's how I took it.
The lyrics say:

You're not there
To celebrate the man that you made
You're not there
To share in my success and mistakes

I assume that his dad was the one who 'made the man' in this case, and not a girl. Just a thought.

I lost my father 2 days ago now due to suicide. If youโ€™re reading this just know youโ€™re enough and you are loved and there are people who want you here. My father meant everything to me.

After losing my dad to Covid and not even being allowed to visit him in the hospital to say goodbye, this song hits too close to home. I canโ€™t even finish listening to it

My mother passed in 2014 i was 14 at the time. I never had a very good relationship with her because her family dont like my dads, so i always thought i could hold my own if I was to see the worst. I was told 2 days almost too late to actually go and see her, it had been five years since i seen her last and when she was laying there she looked asleep and i couldnt stopmyself from saying "mom?" And when I noticed she didnt acknowledge me I cried. I cried to the point i couldnt breath. Thinking back on that time is the only painful memory i have with her. And I dont ever think why can't i see her. I always think i cant wait to tell her this or show her this. Shes not gone forever shes just held up in traffic or forgot something at the grocerystore and turned back. I dont cry about it no more I mean it sucks naturally but its not the end my life has meaning just as hers did. Im thankfull for the time I had

@xxriotgirlxx

Iโ€™m so sorry for your loss
