Su carrera tomó auge gracias a su participación en el festival OTI en la ciudad de México en 1978 donde resultó la representante de México interpretando la canción "Como Tú", la cual fue ganadora y obtuvo el derecho de representar a México en el Festival OTI Internacional que tuvo lugar en Santiago de Chile el 2 de diciembre de 1978, certamen en el cual obtuvo el tercer lugar, pero ya que el primero y el segundo lugar fueron descalificados por plagio, se le otorgo el primer lugar del certamen internacional, mismo que desafortunadamente tiempo despues se le retiro para regresarlo a las triunfadoras del 1er y 2do lugar.
Se ha casado más de cinco veces, entre éstas con los actores Jorge Vargas de México y Sabú de Argentina, los futbolistas Julio Canessa de Uruguay y Carlos Reinoso de Chile, y el modelo alemán Cristian Rossen. Es además, madre del actor y cantante Ernesto D'Alessio (hijo de Jorge Vargas). Desde el año 2000 en que salió de su última telenovela (única con TV Azteca) no ha aparecido en televisión a excepción de entrevistas y reportajes sobre sus escándalos (los últimos con Jorge Vargas y Andrés García. En el 2007 se convierte a la religión cristiana, con esto reaparece en conciertos y entrevistas en televisión.
