Well, just keep on runnin' mama, 'till you can't run no more
You no your sister told your mama 'bout the boy next door
Well, I see your sugar daddy comin' around the corner
I wonder if he knows your the preacher's daughter, oh no

Well, I seen you through your window, baby, many times before
Yeah there's a hundred different lovers knockin' on your back door
Well, I see your sugar daddy comin' around the corner
I wonder if he knows your the preacher's daughter, oh no

Well, keep on runnin' mama, 'till you can't get no ?
You're just a no good woman lord, I ain't lyin'
Well, I see your sugar daddy comin' around the corner
I wonder if he knows your the preacher's daughter, oh no

And I'm takin' about the preacher's daughter
Doin' what she hadn't oughta

Gettin' on down
With every stud in town

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lynyrd Skynyrd's song "Preacher's Daughter" tell the story of a young woman who is in a romantic relationship with a man who is not approved by her family. The persona in the song warns her to run away because her sister has informed their mother about the affair with the boy next door. The sugar daddy mentioned represents an older man who is wealthy and often spends money on the young woman. The chorus expresses the uncertainty of whether or not the sugar daddy knows that the woman is the preacher's daughter. The persona warns her to keep running until she can't run anymore, implying that the situation is dangerous and will lead to trouble.

The tone of the song is one of warning and concern for the woman's wellbeing. The use of the term "no good woman" implies that her choices are not in line with what her family expects of her. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the danger of the situation and the persona's concern for the woman's safety. The song ultimately highlights the struggle of reconciling family values with personal desires.

One of my favorite tunes is the seldom played "Preacher's Daughter" as it makes me want to boogie! My frisbee freestyle partner always had this tune handy to get a crowd motivated. I really like the line: "I'm an armadillo lover."

The recording quality of this whole album is great and the only one I've noticed has noticeable reverb on Ronnie's vocals that sounds fantastic these guys were"the southern bad boys of rock n' roll" they will remain forever in the hearts of those of us who love listening to what they left us with....... The unique "ball grabbing, soulful unique rock n' roll talent of "LYNYRD SKYNYRD" RIP "Rock In Peace" ✌🏼️

I discovered Skynyrd backwards.  I heard their songs on the radio but it wasn't until my junior year in high school in 1978 when I got my first job that I was able to actually buy their music.  First 8-Track I bought was "First and Last" which had just been released.  Funny thing, from that point on I bought their 8-Tracks/Albums in reverse order of release with Pronounced being the last one I bought. Good times. Would have loved to have seen the original band.

+WVFreebyrd They were incredible! Today they would have been a PC nightmare because the stadium was wall to wall Rebel flags! And coming from a High School called the Buckeye South Rebels you know we carried our share! Took over an entire section of the stadium!
