Stand Up
MLE Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I got in a fight over some stupid insecurities.
Stepped out of the light.
When did we lose our old identity?

Now my white flags are waving around
'Cause you don't need your best friends bringing you down.
Something in the air with the smoke and the fire
Got in my eyes, our eyes singing,

Stand up, stand up
Can I be strong enough?
I'm trying hard to be myself again
To be myself again.

I've been tripping over all the rules
Living my live somebody else's way.
I've been sinking on this ship of fools,
Following orders that I can't obey.

Now my white flags are waving around
'Cause the choices I've made ran me into the ground.
Someone's at the crash site digging me out.
I hope it's you, I hear you singing to me

Stand up, stand up
Can I be strong enough?
I'm trying hard to be myself again
Stand up, stand up
Brothers be strong enough.
We're trying hard to be ourselves again
To be ourselves again.

When plans go wrong they won't set the sun.
When plans go wrong they won't ruin the day.

Stand up, stand up
I gotta be strong enough.
I'm trying hard to be myself again.
So stand up, stand up.
Brothers be strong enough.
We're trying hard to be ourselves again again.

Stand up, stand up (Stand up, stand up)
Stand up, stand up (Stand up, stand up)
Stand up, stand up (Stand up, stand up)
Stand up, stand up, stand up!
Stand up, stand up (Stand up, stand up)
Stand up, stand up (Stand up, stand up)

Stand up, stand up (Stand up, stand up)
Stand up, stand up

Overall Meaning

MLE's "Stand Up" is a song that speaks to the emotional struggles that one experiences as they try to navigate through life while constantly being bombarded by overwhelming insecurities. The song has a catchy beat and an inspiring message that encourages listeners to stand up for themselves and to be unapologetically confident in their unique identity. The lyrics delve into the effects of social pressure and conformity, highlighting the importance of staying true to one's self and not allowing friends or society to bring them down. The song talks about fighting to get back to a place of self-expression and self-love, where one can live authentically and embrace their individuality.

The line "Now my white flags are waving around" is a powerful metaphor for surrendering to the idea that it's time to make a change and stand up for oneself. The reference to "stepping out of the light" implies the struggle to shield oneself and remain emotionally distant from the world, which only magnifies personal insecurities. The song encourages listeners to embrace their inner strength and to break free from living their lives according to the expectations of others. Even though the journey towards self-acceptance may be challenging, the lyrics emphasize the message that to achieve one's goals, one must stand up and be strong enough to confront their fears and insecurities.

End Call Caesar

This was hilarious and confusing all at once, like the dude had these awkward repetitions in speech between points but it made the punchlines so much more funny. I thought at first he was actually nervous or struggling to remember his jokes but I've realized it was all on purpose. This guy has some serious talent and insight.

J D

No, it didn’t work at all. It was on purpose but done so poorly that it made it seem like he forgot his jokes. Not funny.

Whiskers McClean

I was reminded of Norm MacDonald's delivery. Can't wait to see what else this youngster delivers.

A lot of comedians do that, it's part of their onstage persona or just presentation.

Shay

His character is SPOT ON. I used to hook up with a guy like this and he exclusively wore this exact outfit

Shay

@Stephen Padlock can you elaborate? Not sure if you're saying you're confused why I'm not turned off by the character lol. If that is the case, I'll say this is satirical comedy after all. As for real life, the best option is to ask/learn what someone wants on an individual basis, it's rarely one size fits all

Stephen Padlock

I will never have any idea what women want…

Bólido

I used to believe twitter humour wouldn't translate well to stand up but I have been proven wrong

@Stan Loona i stan loona but i dont stan you for this

II XVIII

... are you just referring to one-liners? The kind of 'random thought' thing also isn't new.
