MPB-4/Paulo Ricardo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Diz que Deus dará
Não vou duvidar, ó nega
E se Deus não dá
Como é que vai ficar, ó nega
Diz que Deus diz que dá
E se Deus negar, ó nega
Eu vou me indignar e chega
Deus é um cara gozador, adora brincadeira
Pois pra me jogar no mundo, tinha o mundo inteiro
Mas achou muito engraçado me botar cabreiro
Na barriga da miséria nasci batuqueiro (brasileiro)*
Eu sou do Rio de Janeiro
Jesus Cristo inda me paga, um dia inda me explica
Como é que pôs no mundo esta pobre coisica (pouca titica)*
Vou correr o mundo afora, dar um canjica
Que é pra ver se alguém se embala ao ronco da cuíca
E aquele abraço pra quem fica
Deus me fez um cara fraco, desdentado e feio
Pele e osso simplesmente, quase sem recheio
Mas se alguém me desafia e bota a mãe no meio
Dou pernada a três por quatro e nem me despenteio
Que eu já tô de saco cheio
Deus me deu mão de veludo pra fazer carícia
Deus me deu muitas saudades e muita preguiça
Deus me deu pernas compridas e muita malícia
Pra correr atrás de bola e fugir da polícia
Um dia ainda sou notícia
In Partido Alto, MPB-4/Paulo Ricardo uses his lyrics to talk about the ways of the world and the idea of leaving things up to God. He says that people often say that God will provide, and he won't doubt it. However, he questions what will happen if God doesn't provide. There is a sense of frustration in the tone, as if he's tired of people relying on a higher power to solve problems that need human intervention. The lyrics also mention the irony of being born into poverty as a Brazilian percussionist in Rio de Janeiro, suggesting that there must be a reason for it, even if he doesn't fully understand it.
The lyrics then take a slightly humorous turn as he talks about Jesus Christ still having to explain how he could create something as puny as a human being. The line "Vou correr o mundo afora, dar um canjica, que é pra ver se alguém se embala ao ronco da cuíca" means that he will wander the world, playing his percussion instrument (cuíca) in hopes of finding someone who can be moved by it. In the final verse, he talks about how he was made physically weak but was given some useful traits. He mentions his ability to run fast, and his instinct to run away from the police. He also talks about his tender touch and how sometimes he feels very nostalgic. Finally, he expresses his hope that one day he will make headlines.
