Machine Gun Kelly released his fifth album, Tickets to My Downfall, in 2020; it marked a complete departure from hip hop and entry into pop punk. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, the only rock album to do so that year, and contained the single "My Ex's Best Friend" (with blackbear), which reached number 20 on the Hot 100. He achieved similar commercial success with its follow up mainstream sellout (2022).
Machine Gun Kelly had his first starring role in the romantic drama Beyond the Lights (2014), and since appeared in the techno-thriller Nerve (2016), the horror Bird Box (2018), the comedy Big Time Adolescence and portrayed Tommy Lee in the biopic The Dirt (both 2019).

Hold up
Hop in, roll up
Bad bitch shotgun toes up
Gang signs, my block
All tattoos on my top
Rockstar that's my life
Never ever look at the price
Bitch don't try my life
Ay, ay, ay
Hop in, roll up
Bad bitch shotgun toes up
Gang signs, my block
All tattoos on my top, Kells
You can never ever stay the night
Rockstar that's my life
Never ever look at the price
Bitch don't try my life
Hold up
I don't need, I don't need love
I just need three in the tub
Give me good weed and some rub
Scrape up them knees on the rug
I ain't gonna show you no love, no
You say my name you a dub, no
Picked her up from Delilah's
She said "Twenty I'm wide up"
Stayed up, can't sleep
Couple chickenheads it's a eight piece
Girls in the cars all topless
Rock God I was born in a mosh pit
Hop in, roll up
Bad bitch shotgun toes up
Gang signs, my block
All tattoos on my top
You can never ever stay the night
Rockstar that's my life
Never ever look at the price
Bitch don't try my life
Yeah, piped up and I can't stop, can't stop
Bagged twenty bitched at Papi's
Record label thinks I'm crazy
Showed up with the thing, no safety
You can take me out the hood don't fake me
128th we ain't have AC
Hundred square feet to a hundred K fee
If you ain't noticed I don't give much of a fuck lately
Don't you ever try my life
VVS diamonds my ice
Brand new Range Rov' black
She can't never come back
Hop in, roll up
Bad bitch shotgun toes up
Gang signs, my block
All tattoos on my top
You can never ever stay the night
Rockstar that's my life
Never ever look at the price
Bitch don't try my life
Ay, ay, ay
Hop in, roll up
Bad bitch shotgun toes up
Gang signs, my block
All tattoos on my top, Kells
You can never ever stay the night
Rockstar that's my life
Never ever look at the price
Bitch don't try my life
The lyrics of "SIGNS" by Machine Gun Kelly and 24hrs suggest a life of indulgent excess and the pursuit of a rockstar lifestyle. The chorus suggests an awareness of the fleeting nature of the relationships that the duo pursues. The lyrics paint a picture of a life of partying, drug use, and casual sex. The two rappers describe their surroundings, tattoos, and the signs that they use to represent their block. The lyrics mention multiple times that people trying to invade their lives will be met with hostility.
The verses go on to describe their preference for short-term sexual relationships without emotional involvement, and a preoccupation with excess and luxury, including designer clothes, high-end cars, and lavish accommodations. The rappers boast about their wealth, fame, and influence, and describe themselves as above the laws of society. The song presents a fantasy world, a romanticized vision of the rock star existence in which rebellion and excess are the norm.
