Long way home

But you think you understand
With the lights still off
Our clothes still on the floor
And your head in your hands
You say she's holding you back
You're all out of reasons to stick around
It's time to think of yourself
In spite of her tears
And break your vow of so many years
Well don't get me wrong
I like what I hear
And even if it's true
I have to ask
'Cause I wanna be absolutely clear
Just what am I to you
Oh I'm your light in the dark
Your breath of fresh air
The love of your life
The answer to all your prayers
No, I am just your long way home
I know it, you'll know it soon
I am just your long way home
You're welcome
That morning the day had finally come
For somebody to lose
You kissed me hard and walked out of my door
To give her the bad news
But I followed you there
Like the sick fuck I am
To see what she'd do when you said goodbye again
She opened the door
She opened her arms
And you fell into them like a baby
And there from my car
I became your long way home
I knew it, you know it now
I was just your long way home
I knew it, she knows it now
I was just your long way home
You're welcome
In Maia Sharp's song Long Way Home, the lyrics explore the complexities of relationships and the difficult decisions that sometimes have to be made. The song starts off with the singer confessing to her lover that she understands why he feels the need to leave his current partner. The lyrics then go on to list various reasons for why he needs to move on, despite the tears that will be shed. The chorus of the song is perhaps the most poignant, as the singer asks what she means to her lover, to which he responds that she is his "long way home".
The lyrics then take a darker turn as the singer follows her lover to the place where he is about to break the news to his current partner. She is there to witness the exchange, and as he leans into his partner's arms, it becomes clear that the singer was right all along. The song ends with the repeated statement, "I was just your long way home."
The lyrics of this song are rich in meaning, as they speak to the complicated nature of relationships and the journey towards finding a true home, whether it be with a person or within oneself. The use of imagery, such as the clothes still on the floor and the darkness of the room, add depth to the lyrics and create a sense of intimacy. The song is a powerful exploration of human emotions and the important role that love plays in our lives.
