I'll Never Smile Again
Malcolm Lockyer And His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll never smile again
Until I smile at you
I'll never laugh again
What good would it do
For tears would fill my eyes
My heart would realize
That our romance is true
I'll never love again
I'm so in love with you
I'll never thrill again
To somebody new
Within my heart
I know I will never start
To smile again
Until I smile at you

Within my heart
I know I will never start

To smile again
Until I smile at you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "I'll Never Smile Again" by Malcolm Lockyer And His Orchestra are essentially about how the singer feels he will never be able to find love again. He addresses the person he loves directly, stating that he will not be able to smile, laugh or love until he is with her. The lyrics imply that he has been hurt in the past, and the thought of trying to love someone else brings only tears to his eyes. He is convinced that their romance is true and nothing could ever replace the love he feels for her. The last two lines of the song emphasize how he believes he will never be able to truly smile again until he is with her.

This song is a classic example of a love ballad from the 1940s. The lyrics are simple and direct, but the message is emotionally powerful. It resonated with many people and became a popular hit during a time when many people were experiencing intense emotions due to World War II. The song has been covered by many artists over the years, including Frank Sinatra, who performed a version in 1940 that became a number one hit on the Billboard charts.

Super cover art. I can only think the thumbs down are from people hoping for a different sort of drum and bass - or for Erroll Garner. The fourth track puzzled me because it sounded like Charles Trenet's "I wish you love" before I learnt he sent it around a second time! The missing tracks are "Stars fell on Alabama" and "It's easy to remember".

Very pleasant. Thank you for sharing, Benny Hill
