You Don't Like Us
Man Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got a funny kind of feeling
That you don't like us no more
Ain't seen you 'round in a long time
Didn't leave your name on the door

If you want some rock and roll
You'd better shake off your pride, let your heart rule your soul
Crying shame when it gets in your way
You don't like us, you don't like us no more

I'm standing up on a mountain
I'm looking over the sea
I took some songs to them
And someone stole things from me

It's a shame when you pay your way
And the people don't understand what you say
I had no money and I had no guitar
You don't like us, you don't like us no more

You don't like us
You don't like us

I've got a funny kind of feeling
That you don't like us no more
Ain't seen you 'round in a long time
Didn't leave your name on the door

If you want some rock and roll
You'd better shake off your pride, let your heart rule your soul
Crying shame when it gets in your way
You don't like us, you don't like us no more

You don't like us
You don't like us
You don't like us
You don't like us, like us no more
You don't like us
You don't like us

You don't like us
You don't like us, like us no more

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the Man song "You Don't Like Us" suggest an ongoing resentment and frustration towards someone or something that has caused the band members to feel rejected and unappreciated. The opening line, "I've got a funny kind of feeling that you don't like us no more" sets the tone for the entire song as the band wonders why their presence and music is no longer welcomed. This is further emphasized by the line, "Ain't seen you 'round in a long time, didn't leave your name on the door", indicating that someone they used to know or a place they used to frequent has now turned their back on them.

The second verse, "I'm standing up on a mountain, I'm looking over the sea" suggests the band has tried to seek new opportunities, but even that has not been fruitful as "someone stole things from me." This could refer to actual theft or metaphorically, the lack of recognition and compensation for their hard work. The chorus repeats that the person or entity in question no longer likes the band, and in order to regain their interest, the band suggests they should "shake off their pride, let their heart rule their soul."

The final verse highlights the irony of the situation - the band has invested time and money to try and make music and connect with people, but when they had "no money and no guitar," they were likely more appreciated. Despite this, the band continues to assert their presence and questioning why they are no longer welcomed. Overall, the song showcases a universal feeling of rejection and a desire to be heard and appreciated.

I love this scene
And love this version way more than the original.
It’s so powerful
I know I’m not alone in that this song speaks deeply to your soul
And not that anyone cares but it was only when I met my wife that I ever accepted that it was ok to be who I was
I just wish I found that out years ago...

Regardless it’s a great scene and a powerful message

Thank you to DC and doom patrol for putting this out

It really spoke to me

Lyrics

We come into this world unknown
But know that we are not alone
They try and knock us down
But change is coming, it's our time now

Hey everybody loses it
Everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes
And hey, yeah I know what you're going through
Don't let it get the best of you, you'll make it out alive
Oh, people like us we've gotta stick together
Keep your head up, nothing lasts forever
Here's to the damned to the lost and forgotten
It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom

Oh woah oh oh woah oh
We are all misfits living in a world on fire
Oh woah oh oh woah oh
Sing it for the people like us, the people like us

Hey, this is not a funeral
It's a revolution, after all your tears have turned to rage
Just wait, everything will be okay
Even when you're feeling like it's going down in flames

Oh, people like us we've gotta stick together
Keep your head up nothing lasts forever
Here's to the damned, to the lost and forgotten
It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom

Oh woah oh oh woah oh
We are all misfits living in a world on fire
Oh woah oh oh woah oh
Sing it for the people like us, the people like us

They can't do nothing to you, they can't do nothing to me
This is the life that we choose, this is the life that we bleed
So throw your fists in the air, come out, come out if you dare
Tonight we're gonna change forever

Everybody loses it,

Everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes

Oh, people like us we've gotta stick together
Keep your head up nothing lasts forever
Here's to the damned, to the lost and forgotten
It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom

Oh woah oh oh woah oh
We are all misfits living in a world on fire
Oh woah oh oh woah oh
Sing it for the people like us, the people like us

Before anyone points it out,
Technically the title should be
Negative Man "Not" Singing in a Karaoke 😂😂

@CmdrPinkiePie

He sings off-screen during the post-victory party and is taken back to Doom Manor mid-song.

Doom Patrol is proof that the DC Universe has a beating heart. Imagine this scene in a dark, dreary Batman film, Suicide Squad, Justice League. Doom Patrol is deep, funny and often extremely touching. This scene is awesome.

@fulcrum6760

Sadly, because it rivals all of those, Snyder fans shit on this show hard thinking if he did it it’ll be good.

@Misunao23

This show is the best DC based show I’ve seen since Smallville. It’s so good.
