The lyrics of "Musique du Soleil" by Man and Machine can be interpreted as a celebration of youthful energy and camaraderie in the context of a vibrant nightlife scene. The recurring line "Yah, yah, doing a lot wherever we at, gully, gully" suggests a sense of confidence and liveliness, as the artists express their readiness to seize the moment and enjoy themselves.
The phrase "Yindaba uthanda, utswala (uyaphuza), sipping sipping at the mazza (at a mazza)" refers to the act of drinking alcohol (swala) and enjoying oneself at a party or social gathering ("mazza"). The following line, "Everytime that you post, bafuna ukthakata" suggests that others may envy their carefree lifestyle and try to imitate them, but they will never match their authenticity and spirit. The repeated refrain "Yeah bazo sala (sala), of course bazo sala" reinforces the idea that while others may try to compete, they will ultimately be left behind.
The second verse explores themes of romantic relationships and the artist's preferences. The line "Why you with him, akanamali" can be interpreted as questioning why someone would choose to be with a partner who can't provide the same lavish lifestyle or experiences ("Zimbali"). The artist then asserts his own appeal, expressing that he is surrounded by friends ("boys") and enjoys their company in the gully or street, where they feel a sense of belonging and unity.
The third verse continues to emphasize the artist's social prowess and confidence. The lines "I stay mobbin with my twins, twizzy" suggests a close bond with his friends, who are represented as "twins" or partners in crime. The reference to "twizzy" and "glizzy" may refer to firearms or a sense of power and control. The artist claims to have the upper hand and suggests that others may not fully comprehend their level of activity and productivity. The mention of "Dubane" refers to Durban, a city in South Africa, further highlighting the local context of the lyrics and the artist's connection to their hometown.
Overall, "Musique du Soleil" portrays a vibrant nightlife scene filled with energy, confidence, and camaraderie. The lyrics capture the spirit of enjoying oneself, socializing with friends, and asserting one's place within a specific community or scene. The song celebrates a carefree lifestyle and a sense of pride in one's identity and social connections.

Si on voulait vraiment embellir notre cité
