Early life.
Mandoza was born in the Zola South section of Soweto, where he shared a house with his parents, his grandparents and two sisters. When he was sixteen years old he was charged with stealing a car and received a one-and-a-half year sentence, which he served in Diepkloof prison.
When he was released from prison, Mandoza formed the group Chiskop along with three childhood friends, S’bu, Siphiwe and Siszwe.
Musical career.
The group signed its first record contract eight years after its formation and released their debut album, Klaimer, later followed by Ghetto 2000.
Although Chiskop achieved great success and was widely seen to be at kwaito's forefront, Mandoza also started a solo career; in 1999 he released the top-selling (more than 100,000 units sold) album 9II5 Zola South, for which he gained a 2000 FNB South African Music Awards Best Newcomer nomination.
He subsequently released the album Nkalakatha in 2000, which won multi-platinum status. The title track became a crossover hit and reached the top of the charts on both traditionally black and white radio stations. This album won the Best Kwaito Music Album category and the album's title track won the Song Of The Year category at the South African Music Awards in 2001. Mandoza also won in five of the ten categories at the 2001 Metro Music Awards: Best Kwaito Artist, Best Male Vocalist, Best Album, Best Styled Artist and Song Of The Year. Finally, also in 2001, Mandoza won the Best Artist - Southern Africa category at the Kora All Africa Music Awards.
Mandoza was voted 77th in the Top 100 Great South Africans in 2004.
In February 2005 it was announced that Mandoza would play a major supporting role in a new South African-made rugby-themed feature film, Number 10, which would be directed by Academy Award nominee Darrell James Roodt. It was also announced that Mandoza would be contributing to the film's soundtrack.
Mandoza sang in several of South Africa's many languages, including English, Afrikaans, Zulu, and Xhosa, giving him wide appeal with South African listeners.
Mandoza died September 18, 2016. According to his family, he was being treated for pharyngeal cancer prior to his death.

Mandoza Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Yeah
You know sometimes abantu aba understand le life esiyi philayo
Being in the public eye all the time
Getting attention that you don't need
Sometimes you say wrong things to other people
But you know what
I didn't mean it
I didn't mean it
Ngithi I'm sorry if ngak'khuluma kabi
I didn't mean it (I didn't mean it)
I didn't mean it (I didn't mean it)
Ngithi mina I'm sorry if ngakwenza kabi (said I'm sorry)
I didn't mean it (I didn't mean it ohh)
I didn't mean it (ohhhw)
Sometimes abantu aba understand ilife esiy'philayo
Being a man
Being a dad
Being a famous man
Askwazi uk'phila iy'mpilo zethu normally
Senz'izinto normally
Sphile iy'mpilo zethu njengabantu abangena mali
In this game you get too much attention
There's no privacy at all for your actions
Bese wenza izinto ey'dom
You got it all wrong
And then you think you big like King Kong
Sometimes uwenza izinto u-under pressure
Scarred to make it happen cause you think you'll mess up
Don't give up because ilife izok'tester
Abantu bangakhuluma kodwa angeke bakuqede
Ngithi I'm sorry if ngak'khuluma kabi (said I'm sorry ohh)
I didn't mean it (I didn't mean it)
I didn't mean it (no no I didn't mean it)
Ngithi ngithi I'm sorry if ngakwenza kabi (you know I'm sorry)
I didn't mean it (no I didn't mean it)
I didn't mean it (no I didn't mean it)
Ama camera phone nama phepha babhizi phez'kwami ne TV
Maw'bheka yonke indawo overseas
Magazine uShakes, that's me (uShakes that's me)
Abanye babo ba planta ba khuluma umathanda bathi I'll never succeed
Bangi luzisa ithemba,
Bathi ng'zolahla ithemba mabe thetha ngami (mabe thetha ngami)
Njengo Brenda Fassi mina indaba yami istraight and ayifuni ruler
Please ngicela ungang'displace
Kunini every body has been on my case nami ngicela ukushawa umoya
I'm sorry if ngak'phatha kabi (uhm I'm sorry)
I didn't mean it (I'm so sorry)
I didn't mean it (I'm so sorry)
I'm sorry if ngak'phatha kabi
I didn't mean it (you know I didn't mean it)
I didn't mean it (you should know I didn't mean it)
Ngithi I'm sorry if ngak'khuluma kabi (I'm so so sorry)
I didn't mean it (you know I don't mean it)
I didn't mean it (help me approve I didn't mean it)
Ngithi ngithi I'm sorry if ngakwenza kabi (I'm so sorry)
I didn't mean it (I didn't mean it no no)
I didn't mean it (I didn't mean it)
Every body deserves a second
Why not me?
Said every body deserves a second chance
Why not me?
The lyrics of Mandoza's "I'm Sorry" delve into the challenges and difficulties of being a public figure constantly under scrutiny.
