On a Little Street in Singapore
Manhattan Transfer (The) Lyrics

On a little street in Singapore
With me - beside a lotus covered door
A veil of moonlight on her lovely face
How pale the hands that held me in embrace

My sails tonight are filled with perfume of Shalimar
With temple bells that guide me to her shore
And then I hold you in my arms
And love the way I loved before
On a little street in Singapore

On a little street in Singapore
With me - beside a lotus covered door

A veil of moonlight on her lovely face
How pale the hands that held me in embrace

This was a MASSIVE hit for MHT; ย they couldย do no wrong during the mid to lateย 70sย - and even made into the 80s with 'Twilight Zone'!!

It was 1976 when I first caught the hypnotic strains of this gorgeous song while moving thru Vancouver's PNE with my family. It was instant dejavu, as I turned into the crowd to robotically follow the music, before discovering it was coming from a dance studio demo. The couple dancing the foxtrot mesmerized me, and thus, began a 10 year love affair with ballroom dancing and all things old timey... Pastiche is timeless, every song on the album remains a gem. No one sang and performed liked MT

Such a great rendition of an equally great song. The hairs on the back of your neck just bristle with intrepidation. Love the harmonies. Modern music just doesn't have it.

My goodness! I have the '45 of this single that I inherited from my mother. It's actually my favorite version of this song, and I'm completely surprised that I could find it. Yay for YouTube to keep fantastic songs from fading into obscurity!
