Out of time
Manic Street Preachers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't know what's going on
You've been away for far too long
You can't come back
And think you are still mine

You're out of touch my baby
My poor old-fashioned baby
I said baby, baby, baby
You're out of time

Well baby, baby, baby
You're out of time
I said baby, baby, baby
You're out of time

Yes you are left out
Out of there without a doubt
Baby, baby, baby
You're out of time

You thought you were a clever gir
L Giving up your social whirl
But you can't come back
And be the first in line

You're obsolete my baby
My poor old-fashioned baby
I said baby, baby, baby
You're out of time

Well baby, baby, baby
You're out of time
I said baby, baby, baby
You're out of time

Yes you are left out
Out of there without a doubt
Baby, baby, baby
You're out of time

Well baby, baby, baby
You're out of time
I said baby, baby, baby
You're out of time

Yes you are left out
Out of there without a doubt
Baby, baby, baby
You're out of time

Well baby, baby, baby
You're out of time
I said baby, baby, baby
You're out of time

Yes you are left out
Out of there without a doubt

Baby, baby, baby
You're

Overall Meaning

out of time

The lyrics in "Out of Time" by Manic Street Preachers describe a situation where the singer is telling their former lover that they can't come back to their life after being away for such a long time. The phrase "you're out of touch my baby, my poor old-fashioned baby" implies that the person hasn't kept up with the times, and they are no longer relevant to the singer's life. The use of the word "obsolete" also reinforces this idea. The line "you thought you were a clever girl, giving up your social whirl" suggests that the person left the singer to pursue their own pursuits, but now they can't come back and expect the same relationship they once had.

Throughout the song, the repetition of the phrase "baby, baby, baby" emphasizes the singer's frustration and bewilderment with the situation. The chorus, "You're out of time" is a clear statement that the person has missed their chance and has no place in the singer's life anymore. Overall, the song portrays a sense of nostalgia and regret for the relationship that was lost, while also acknowledging that there is no going back.

Im no Manics fan but I have to hand it to JDB...he's one of the best rock voices to come from these shores. I'm also loving Gilson on drums driving this song along. Works at this tempo too. Such a great song.

Had Amy lived, she would have done this song. It would have been perfection.
