María Gabriela decided to go on her own in 1998. She formed her own band, creating a project called A1, and released a self-titled album that same year. Rouge's and Maleta de Loca's most important member, Maria Gabriela Epumer's talent was recognized while recording and touring along with argentinean rock giant Charly García during the 1990s .
She joined Rouge with Claudia Sinesi and Andrea Alvarez .
This project mutated into Viuda e hijas de Roque Enroll, a band that became a myth in argentinian rock history as it was the first argentinian female band ever. María Gabriela played guitar and sung along with Mavy Díaz, Claudia Sinesi played bass and Claudia Rufinatti played keyboards. From 1983 to 1988 they recorded the albums Viuda e hijas de Roque Enroll, Ciudad Catrúnica and Vale 4.
She joined Fito Páez for his Corazón Clandestino album and María Rosa Yorio, for the album Puertos. Viuda e hijas de Roque Enroll disbanded in 1988.
Towards 1992, María Gabriela Epumer joined Luis Alberto Spinetta for a live performance of his album Pelusón Of Milk and became a member of Celeste Carballo's Band. In 1993 she created another all-female project: Las Chicas with Laura Gómez Palma, Marcela Chediack, Floppy Bernaudo and Laura Casarino.
In 1995, she met Robert Fripp, and took his guitar seminar and played with him. That same year she joined Fernando Samalea, (Charly García's drummer) in a new project: Montecarlo Jazz Ensamble in which more than 50 argetinian musicians record benefically for the indigenous argentine community. She wrote an performed in many of the tracks of the double album which she also produced.
In January of 2001, she played the Buenos Aires Hot Festival, alongside with R.E.M., Beck, Oasis and Neil Young.
In 1994, 1995, 1998 and 2002, she recorded with Charly García the albums La Hija de la Lágrima, Cassandra Lange, Hello-MTV Unplugged, El Aguante and Influencia.
Her last album independently released was The Compilady in 2003. This same year the young singer died mysteriously and tragically, (heart failure was announced) and another musical genious was gone before her time was due.
Fugá
María Gabriela Epumer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Alguna una estrella hoy caerá,
Sostener infidencias.
Cierro mis ojos y no estoy aquí,
Sueño traiciones, despierto al fin,
Suspirar turbulencias.
Sigo embrujada de soledad.
Contendrán apariencias.
Cruzo mis dedos, ya verás,
Alguna estrella hoy caerá,
Sostener infidencias.
In María Gabriela Epumer's song "Fuga", the lyrics seem to revolve around the theme of escape and finding a refuge from the turbulence and infidelities of life. The opening lines "Cruzo mis dedos, ya verás, alguna estrella hoy caerá" can be translated to "I cross my fingers, you'll see, some star will fall today". This line may suggest a sense of hope, a belief that luck or fate may bring about a positive change in the singer's life.
The second verse "Cierro mis ojos y no estoy aquí, sueño traiciones, despierto al fin, suspirar turbulencias" can be roughly translated to "I close my eyes, and I'm not here, I dream of betrayals, I wake in the end, sighing turbulence". These lyrics indicate a sense of disillusionment or perhaps trauma and nightmares, and a desire to escape from the harsh realities of life. The singer yearns to escape, to find solitude and maybe even be free from the expectations and appearances of society.
The third verse "Abro mis manos, liberás, sigo embrujada de soledad. Contendrán apariencias" can be translated to "I open my hands, I am liberated, I am still enchanted by loneliness. They will contain appearances". This verse continues the theme of escape, implying that the liberation the singer seeks might come from solitude, but it also acknowledges the pressure of appearances and social expectations.
Overall, "Fuga" presents themes of hopefulness in the face of adversity, disillusionment and trauma, and a yearning for escape and solitude.
