aunque tu has muerto todas mis ilusiones
Tu me quieres dejar yo no quiero sufrir
contigo me voy mi santa aunque me cueste morir
Ay tu me quieres dejar yo no quiero sufrir
contigo me voy mi santa aunque me cueste morir
Un jardinero de amor siembra una flor y se va
otro viene y la cultiva de cual de los dos sera
Ay tu me quieres dejar yo no quiero sufrir
contigo me voy mi santa aunque me cueste morir
Amada prenda querida no puedo vivir sin verte
porque mi fin es quererte y amarte toda la vida
Ay tu me quieres dejar yo no quiero sufrir
contigo me voy mi santa aunque me cueste morir
Yo te lo digo mi amor te lo repito otra vez
contigo me voy mi santa porque contigo morire
Ay tu me quieres dejar yo no quiero sufrir
contigo me voy mi santa aunque me cueste morir
Tu me quieres dejar yo no quiero sufrir
contigo me voy mi santa aunque me cueste morir
Yo te lo digo mi amor que contigo morire
contigo me voy mi santa te lo repito otra vez
Ay tu me quieres dejar yo no quiero sufrir
contigo me voy mi santa aunque me cueste morir
The lyrics of María Teresa Vera's Lágrimas Negras tell the story of a lover who has been abandoned by their partner. Despite the pain and the loss of all of their hopes, the singer doesn't curse their lover. Instead, they fill their dreams with blessings for this person who has caused them so much hurt. The singer expresses the immense sorrow they feel for their loved one's departure, and they cry tears that are as dark as their life. No one knows about their suffering because they cry these black tears alone. The singer pleads with their partner not to leave them, even if they must die for true love. They compare themselves to a gardener who plants a flower but never gets to see it bloom, as someone else would reap the beauty of their hard work. The singer can't live without their beloved and is willing to die for them. The last lines repeat the same message of not wanting to suffer but rather to go with their Santa ("my saint") and even though it may cost them their life.
