@hallmt

Very few people know how truly blessed we are to hear this song done this well. How cool it must have been to be in that room.

@TheInfluences

It was very special indeed.

Here’s the ENTIRE story of William and Barbra Allen for those who don’t know. this song is about a man named William who loves a woman named Barbra Allen. The thing is, William confessed his love to Barbra, but she was the kind of person to play hard to get, and was very narcissistic. So she rejected him, but deep down she knew she loved him. So why did she reject him? No one knows. Not even her. And soon enough William gets terminally ill. William sent a messenger to where Barbra was living, and told her to come to his house, more specifically his bedroom. She gets there and sees the horrible state William is in. And when Barbra says “young man I think you’re dying” he’s really around his 40’s. Not necessarily young because life expectancy wasn’t very long in the 1700s. William believed that if Barbra was to embrace him with a kiss, his illness would be cured. But Barbra declined to do it. She talked about how one night they were in a pub, and how William toasted all the ladies there, and that made her feel insulted and jealous. In his bedroom he also had all his friends there beside, next to, and behind Barbra. He says to them “Even though she rejected me, please be kind to her. Adieu.” And when William dies, Barbra feels guilty for rejecting William when she never knew how little time left she had with him. And the day of Williams funeral, she was walking through the field next to the church when she heard the church bells chiming. When she heard the bells, she heard the bells saying “Hard hearted Barbra Allen.” Implying that she was the reason that William died alone. Eventually it got to her and she started crying in the field, saying “Im sorry William! Im sorry! Please carry me home and dig my grave! William died for my yesterday, I shall die for him tomorrow.” Barbra dies the next day because she couldn’t handle her grief when she was buried it was pure coincidence that she was buried next to William as well. From Williams grave a rose grew from his heart. From Barbra heart a briar. And over several months, the 2 flower bushes grew until they couldn’t grow anymore. And when the flowers met, their branches tied a knot around each other. Signifying that in death, the 2 still loved each other. Williams rose grew around Barbra’s briar, in sort of a “hug” fashion. I might have left a few details out but this is essentially the whole story. It’s incredibly solemn.

Thank you so much for doing this and posting it. As another commented, my mother also sang this song to me as child. After her death, and with the passage of time, I forgot the lyrics. You've made a thirty year dream come true. Bless you!!

@Tyrannocaster

Very, very nice job. Great singing and really tasty accompaniment. The high capo thing really works with your voice.

@Earthwise.

I remember my great nana rocking in her chair by the door, singing this song when I was a lad.
