Well-dressed in disguise o-o-o-o, beware
She fool you once she fool you twice
And filled your head with lies
O-o-o-o, beware
Let her past let her go by
Dancing in the forest at night let her past
Just turn around and never ask why
Such beauty you have never seen
This deep you've never been
O-o-o-o, run away
She'll make you leave it all behind
She turns a man into a child
O-o-o-o, run away
Let her past let her go by
Dancing in the forest at night let her past
Let her fly
Just turn around and never ask why
You didn't see the warning signs
And now you pay the price
Ooo, waiting here
In "We're Heading Off Course" by Marion Raven, the lyrics speak to a cautionary tale of being deceived by someone wearing a well-crafted facade. The warning signs were present, but the allure of this deceptive individual was too strong to resist. The repetition of "beware" underscores the urgency and importance of being vigilant and not falling prey to manipulation. The singer is warned not to be fooled by this person's false promises and sweet lies that only serve to cloud the mind with falsehoods.
The imagery of "dancing in the forest at night" suggests a sense of danger and mystery surrounding this individual, urging the singer to let go of their past experiences and the illusions this person has cast upon them. There is a sense of liberation in urging the singer to "let her fly" and not to dwell on the reasons behind her deceit. The depth of this person's deception is emphasized, with the warning to run away and not look back at what could have been or what was lost in the process.
The transformation that occurs when one is ensnared by this individual is starkly portrayed, as she has the power to strip away one's identity and regress them into a state of vulnerability akin to that of a child. The urgency to escape from her grasp is palpable, as she engulfs everything in her path and leaves nothing but destruction in her wake. The repeated calls to "run away" serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of falling victim to her charms and false promises.
The final lines of the song serve as a reflection on the inevitability of facing the consequences of ignoring the warning signs and falling into the trap set by this deceptive individual. The sense of foreboding and waiting that pervades the closing lyrics leaves an unsettling feeling, emphasizing the cycle of manipulation and deceit that can ensnare those who do not heed the cautionary advice. Overall, the lyrics of "We're Heading Off Course" serve as a stark reminder of the importance of recognizing deceptive facades and the need to break free from their hold before it's too late.
