Mad World
Marius Furche Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you,
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very, very
Mad world, mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday, happy birthday
And to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me, what's my lesson?
Look right through me, look right through me
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you,
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very, very
Mad world, mad world, mad world, mad world
Marius Furche's song 'Mad World' is a beautiful yet melancholic portrayal of the grim reality that surrounds us all. The lyrics of the song speak of the monotony of everyday life, where people go through the daily chores without any sense of purpose or direction. The song begins with the words "All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces", which describe the mundane and repetitive nature of life. The line "Bright and early for the daily races, going nowhere, going nowhere" portrays that people are not living, but merely existing in this world without any real aim or meaning.
The heart-wrenching melody of the song is complemented by the lyrics that delve into the loneliness and helplessness that people feel, "Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow, no tomorrow, no tomorrow". The line "Their tears are filling up their glasses, no expression, no expression" highlights the fact that people have become so desensitized to their own emotions that even when they cry, it's just a mere formality, without any real expression. And yet, amidst all the sadness and despair, there's a wry sense of humor in the lyrics, "And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad, the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had".

'Mad World" is a song by the British band Tears for Fears. Written by Roland Orzabal and sung by bassist Curt Smith. Two decades later, the song made a popular resurgence when it was covered in a much slower, minimalist style by composers Michael Andrews and Gary Jules for the soundtrack to the sci-fi mystery movie Donnie Darko in 2001, and then again in the top hit 2006 video game Gears of War. This version reached #1 in the UK in December 2003, and also became an international hit.

I have listened to this piece so many times now, and don't seem to get tired. It is melancholic, but carries a kind of hope in it...as in something beautiful waiting to be revealed.

I heard this piano piece 2 days ago on Sense8 episode 9 and could not remember the name of this song (originally from Tears For Fears and later by Gary Jules and used in Donnie Darko). When I found the song title, I ended up here with my search. Your piano piece is so hauntingly beautiful and soulful. I truly love it. Thank you.

And I find it kind of funny,
I find it kind of sad,
The dreams in which I'm dying,
Are the best I've ever had...
All the sadness of the world, condensed in four lines... really difficult to keep the atmosphere of the original without lyrics, and you've managed to bring it to another level. Perfect rendition, truly a masterpiece.
