Radio Romance
Mashrou Leila Lyrics

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Radio Romance" by Mashrou Leila touch on themes of love, longing, and self-discovery. The song explores the intense feeling of being consumed by love and the longing for connection that can come with it.

The repetition of the lines "Bainama koun 'a jismi, wein ma eidik btlemsinni" (While I exist on my body, wherever your hand touches me) emphasizes the physicality and intensity of the romantic relationship described in the song. It portrays a sense of surrendering oneself completely to love and allowing another person to explore and touch them.

The lyrics also convey a sense of loss and yearning. The line "Ya alli akhatheto minni rabi, nafkh el-hob besdri" (Oh, the one who took it from me, my God, love inflated in my chest) suggests that the singer feels like a significant part of them has been taken away by someone they deeply loved. This loss generates a deep yearning within them, and the love they once had has now filled their heart with longing and desire.

The song also touches on themes of forgiveness and self-liberation. The line "Asamah seneen el-herman, khalas hawanehum kan zaman" (Forgive years of deprivation, it's over, their humiliation was in the past) could imply that the singer is trying to let go of the pain caused by past experiences or relationships. They are ready to forgive and move on from the years of feeling deprived of love and connection.

In the final part of the song, the lyrics express a plea for freedom and redemption from a state of ignorance. The line "Habibi harreni min jehli, awedli seneeni eli fatatni" (My love, liberate me from my ignorance, compensate me for the years I lost) signifies a desire to break free from the limitations of not knowing or understanding oneself fully. It suggests a yearning for self-discovery and for love to bring meaning and fulfillment to their life.

Overall, "Radio Romance" explores the emotions of surrendering oneself to love, the pain of loss and longing, the desire for forgiveness and liberation, and the search for self-discovery and fulfillment through love.

A universe grows on my body
Where your hand touches me
And suddenly life gives me back
All that it has taken from me
My god
He blew love in my chest

A universe grows on my body
Where your hand touches me
And suddenly life gives me back
All that it has taken from me
My god
He blew love in my chest

O' time! It is hard for me
To forgive the times of deprivation
That’s it, shame is in the past

You, the one I got in this world
The years before you were bland
Your love justifies my existence

A universe grows on my body
Where your hand touches me
And suddenly life gives me back
All that it has taken from me
My god
He blew love in my chest

A universe grows on my body
Where your hand touches me
And suddenly life gives me back
All that it has taken from me
My god
He blew love in my chest

My beloved
Free me of my ignorance
Compensate
The years that have past me

A universe grows on my body
Where your hand touches me
And suddenly life gives me back
All that it has taken from me
My god
He blew love in my chest

A universe grows on my body
Where your hand touches me
And suddenly life gives me back
All that it has taken from me
My god
He blew love in my chest

A universe grows on my body
Where your hand touches me
And suddenly life gives me back
All that it has taken from me
My god
He blew love in my chest

A universe grows on my body
Where your hand touches me
And suddenly life gives me back
All that it has taken from me
My god
He blew love in my chest

I’m a black man from Virginia and your music transcends everything I know. This is pure art.

@dimitricariou

To those who never been there, the animation takes place in Gemayzeh/Mar mikhael, a very old street in Beirut where you can find street art, bars and small shops. It’s a very paradoxal place where love and danger are mixed beautifully. I used to make out with my dates on the street because I couldn’t do it at home (my parents or my dates’ parents would have stopped us).
