Might As Well
Mass Love Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Might as well be a ghost, I swear that you can see right through me
Might as well cast a spell
Might as well turn into something quite absurd at midnight
Might as well turn you, too

Somethin' that you do to me sets the air on fire (all around us)
I know not everybody would agree, but I know I know I know
You're the one for me

Might as well read your mind, I swear this is the wrong dimension
Might as well conjure up a sight
Might as well take a bite, unleash this thing that's trapped inside me
Might as well take you, too

Might as well be mistaken
Might as well be overtaken

Somethin' that you do to me sets the air on fire (all around us)
I know not everybody would agree, but I know I know I know
You're the one for me

Somethin' that you do to me sets the air on fire (all around us)

I know not everybody would agree, but I know I know I know
You're the one for me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mass Love's "Might as Well" convey a sense of bewilderment and helplessness over the overwhelming power of love. The singer feels almost invisible to their lover, barely existing in their eyes. They feel like they are living in a different dimension and can read the lover's thoughts, which further confuses them. There is a hint of the supernatural in the lyrics, as the singer talks about turning into a ghost or casting a spell, as if they are under the influence of a higher force. They feel a strong urge to take the lover with them, to share their experience of being consumed by this powerful emotion.

Despite feeling powerless and otherworldly, the singer is aware that there is something special about their love. They know that it sets the air on fire and that not everybody would agree with them, but they are convinced that this person is the one for them. The intensity of their emotions is almost overwhelming, and they seem to be trying to make sense of it all by expressing themselves in these fantastical, surreal ways.

Overall, "Might as Well" is a song about the all-consuming nature of love and how it can make us feel like we are living in a different reality. The lyrics use metaphor and imagery to convey the intensity of these emotions, and the sense of being under the influence of something supernatural.

All star gets all the hype but this is their best song. The guitar and organ go so hard and the rhythm in which he sings the lyrics makes it so catchy. RIP Steve

A man of class I see. This song rules, obviously Allstar is a great song but there's something special about this one.

When I was 12-13 years old and it was the late 90s, this was a grooving tune. As someone who grew up on classic rock, Smashmouth was a 90s band I actually enjoyed. Thanks for the memories, Steve and RIP.

Wot? 12-13 years old. YOU WERE JUST A KID. I was already 35!!!

@Samtino20

Same here 14 and mom turned me on to classic rock so this hit me right as rain

@greg55666

Me too--there are very few bands in the '90s that I know of that were worth listening to. Smash Mouth, Fatboy Slim, Beck. I think that's the end of the list?
