September
Masters and Moderns Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I was a young man courting the girls
I played me a waiting game
If a maid refused me with tossing curls
I'd let the old Earth make a couple of whirls
While I plied her with tears in lieu of pearls
And as time came around she came my way
As time came around, she came
Oh, it's a long long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
And you ain't got time for waiting game

When days dwindle down to a precious few
September November,
And these few golden days I'd share with you
Those golden days I share with you

When you meet with the young girls early in the Spring
You court them in song and rhyme
They answer with words and a clover ring
But if you could examine the goods they bring
They have little to offer but the songs they sing
And the plentiful waste of time of day
A plentiful waste of time

Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game

Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November

And these few precious days I'll spend with you
These precious days I'll spend with you

Overall Meaning

The song "September" by Masters and Moderns tells the story of a young man who used to play a waiting game with the girls he courted. He would wait patiently for the girl to come around even if she initially refused him. As time passed, some of these girls eventually reciprocated his feelings. However, the song emphasizes the importance of time. Specifically, it highlights the shortening of days towards September as autumn weather turns the leaves to flame. It's a metaphor for the passing of time and how it affects us both emotionally and physically.

One of the interesting aspects of the song is its use of seasonal metaphors. The lyrics skillfully compare the natural changes that happen during autumn to the emotional changes that happen in our lives with the passing of time. The song also touches on the idea that love takes time and patience, and that sometimes waiting is inevitable, but eventually time will pass and things will work out. It's a beautiful and nostalgic song that speaks to people of all ages, reminding us that time waits for no one.

Another interesting thing about the song is that it was written by Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson for a Broadway musical called "Knickerbocker Holiday". In the show, the song was sung by the character of Pieter Stuyvesant, played by Walter Huston. Since then, it has been covered by many artists, including Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, and Willie Nelson. It has become a classic romantic ballad that people can relate to.

Lavinia is for cascade it's not there for storm in the hammer time board. It counters any spell someone didn't spend mana to play and shuts it down similar to void mirror. That and Teferi force your opponent to have different types of answers for different stuff. It also counters elementals if invoked & force of vigor can't be cast until 4 lands. Lavinia is like 90% of the reason to splash blue since it helps sooooo many matchups. Lavinia & Teferi come in vs cascade. Lavinia & Hushbringer come in vs elementals.

Dress down is also reallllly bad vs death shadow as it turns it into a 13/13. It's main purpose is to kill saga tokens but it's a card that oddly enough can do a lot. Even if it's just stopping an opposing omnath from drawing a card. It draws a card to replace itself so it almost always grabs some sort of value while drawing a card.

I could see the new goblins getting into the top 10. It's ridiculously cheap, is the only aggro deck that doesn't just lose to living end since it can sack it's whole board in response then overwhelm them, it's combo kill is turn 3 like 20% of the time which can race basically anything and with 1 tutor can hit turn 4 like 60-70%, sling gang is insane reach, it has great side board options vs saga decks allowing it to literally nullify ANY artifact strategy completely with trash master making those games literal byes. Need to check it's matchup vs burn as I could see that being a bit tricky but the mana base is VERY painless and putting burn at creatures to not die is burn not spent killing the player. It has a lot of legs to end up tier 1 or top of tier 2.

Rhino's with leyline also feels like it beats basically everything other than murktide and living end currently. Murktide isn't a bad matchup either. Just not a clear win. I could see it definitely moving into the top 5 over some of the other options as it's already tier 1. It's basically 4C now but plays a cascade package ....

I played ur prowress in modern, but I switched to gift storm. Now I play the first deck in pioneer and it's performing really good.

ShallWeLet's

Cracks me up to see murktide in a #1 spot. Percentage wise a lot of people are playing it. But, you don't see it clinching top spots in events like you'd expect a top tier deck to do. Deck is powerful but way easier to beat then something like living end. I'm on glimpse elementals. That deck finishes high but not much noise about that deck.

MTG Deckmasters

Agreed. People like playong fair 50/50 decks so it is normal to see a high percentage. I recently built glimpse too and I love it!

Kumbert Joehl-Lee

I thought burn has a good matchup against 4c due to it generally being slow and burn being able to kill before omnath lands turn 4 :].
I hope not for a mh3 shakeup now i just ordered my first expensive cards to build mardu reanimator :(.

Ghastman

I think Burn should have a good match up against 4C shouldn't it?

Ghastman

@76MOIMOIMOI so lightning helix is good in this matchup for burn?

76MOIMOIMOI

Players who plays this deck in my LGS have 4 lightning helix main deck ..!

MTG Deckmasters

Not so much but still decent. 4c has some early removal and omnath is really gard to beat. However, you can still race them with a good draw
