Dating back to 2008 as an active performing band, it is now during 2010 that the band members are assembling material and recording their first full length studio album. Matityahu Band's lyrics are on the upbeat side, sometimes promoting local issues of social justice, relations and beat – all in Hebrew.
The live concerts are lively energetic happenings, where the band members frequently integrate with their audience on the floor allowing for no boundaries of space or level, making it irresistible to hop along to. Matityahu Band's repertoire combines sweeping original material led by Matti Eliyahu rapping and improvising on vocals, dotted by well-known covers from the world of reggae, hip hop, and combining exceptional instruments in the genre such as the Australian didgeridoo.
Matityahu Band released their first EP Sivan, their own reggae style interpretation of Yigal Bashan's popular 80's song. The radio edit entered heavy radio play upon it's release, in particularly on Reshet Gimel, Israel's Hebrew music radio, where it was picked as best song in October, 2009.
The video clip for Sivan was also played on the Israeli music television channel 24.

I still remember walking around Chicago back in 04...maybe 05? and this guy invited me into this small club with the promise of great live music (it was the middle of the week and they were just letting people in free to fill the place). Out on stage walks this Hasidic Jew and I was wondering what I'd gotten into... it's still one of the greatest live performances I've ever seen!

I went to see Badfish 4 years ago in Providence, this band called Shrub opened, it was so awesome we left after they opened. I knew Badfish couldn't deliver anything close. I bought their CD and bounced, lmfao
